She still couldn't see him. He was being moved to the Playground in two days, but to her it felt like an eternity.
Skye had moved all of Simmons' stuff into his room, an unspoken gesture that both tore her apart and put her back together again. Almost. There was a long way to go until she was whole again.
Her heart was in a million pieces. Some at the bottom of the ocean, most left in the kisses she planted all over his face seconds before he let go, and one little shard in her chest tethering her to life. The only thing keeping her going.
Two days seemed longer than her life and his put together.

Yesterday, she worked herself into the ground to distract herself. Today she was too exhausted to open her eyes.
She was lying on his bed, face down, his blanket wrapped around her legs and her face buried in his pillow. It still smelled of him, the musky smell of the aftershave he used just hours before he left. He hadn't known that the next bed he would be sleeping in was a hospital bed, white and starched and wired up to machines because-
If it killed her to speak, it destroyed her to think.
It was better to be an empty shell, unfeeling and uncaring.
Problem was, she cared too much to let it go.

There was nothing to stop her from drowning. Not without him.
