I was in third period English when my life changed forever.
"Kelsey Watson report to the principal's office immediately."
Suddenly, the eyes of the classroom were on me. My teacher, Mr. Chev, nodded at me before continuing his lesson. Slowly, I got up and I heard a series of whispers as I exited the room.
Why would the principal want to see me? I didn't do anything wrong! Hell, I'd never even had a detention before.
I walked in and saw that the prinicpal was not alone. He was with a man who looked like he must have been about a thousand and had a beard like you wouldn't believe. It was practically down to his knees, for Christ's sake! He was wearing long black robes. Then I saw him. A boy with a scowl on his face. He had white blonde hair and grey eyes that could cut right to your soul. He wore a green sweater and dark jeans.
"Ah, welcome Miss Watson. This is Professor Dumbledore of Hogwarts Academy in England. He is here because Mr. Malfoy is going to be studying here for a semester. I want you to be his guide." Mr. Kalibrisi informed me.
"Pleasure to meet you, Miss Watson." the Professor said as he shook my hand.
"The pleasure is mine, sir." I replied humbly.
"Kelsey is the top of her class. We see big things for her this year." Mr. K bragged.
I looked over at the boy. "Hey, I'm Kelsey." I said, extending my hand.
Slowly he shook it. "Malfoy. Draco Malfoy."
I chuckled a little.
"What's so bloody funny?" He snapped.
"Nothing it's just that for a second there it seemed like you were imitating James Bond." I giggled.
He stared at me blankly.
"You know... The name's Bond. James Bond." I prompted. He still didn't catch on. I shrugged. Maybe they didn't watch James Bond movies in England.
The principal dismissed us back to my class, so Draco and I started walking down the hallway.
"What kind of name is that anyway? Kelsey?" He asked.
"Your name's Draco and you're insulting my name??" I asked. My name was common. His was, well, just plain weird.
"I'll have you know that back where I come from my family is highly respected." He snapped.
"Okay, okay. Sorry." I muttered. "So, what did you study in your old school?"
He looked at me, unsure how to answer. "What do you mean?"
"Well, I just want to know where you left off so I can help you catch up if need be." I said politely.
"Um.. I took the basics.... You know.. Avergae classes.." He didn't seem to know what he was talking about.
"Yeah? Like what?" I egged him on, amused by his fear.
"Arimatics?" he asked, as if he was trying to remember its name.
"Math. In Worcester, Massachusetts we call it Math." I told him.
"Yes, that's what I meant. Math." he stuttered.
"So what's it like in England?" I tried to start up a more normal conversation.
"Oh, well, you know. Cold. But nice. There's a lake beside my school that's really nice to sit by in the spring." He seemed relieved to be speaking about something he could grasp.
"We have lakes here too. Well, we have Lake Quinsigamond but I wouldn't suggest going swimming there. It's like super polluted." I said.
"Polluted?" He asked.
"Yeah, like with garbage and waste products and the like." I babbled on for a bit and he studied me quietly. It had seemed, when he first saw me, that he was disgusted by me. But now he just seemed intrigued.
"Kelsey, can I be honest with you for a second?" He asked suddenly.
"Uh, sure Draco. Of course." I was slightly taken aback but I tried not to show it.
"I am completely out of my element here." He sighed.
"I could kind of tell." I replied, laughing lightly. "It's okay, I'm sure your life in England is way different than your life here will be." I tried to be comforting.
"You have no idea." He said and it almost seemed like he was sharing some sort of private joke with himself.
