The TV screen switched off with a small flash."Not again," Alex commented, just as the screen came to life again. There was nothing but an unending white and a creepy black shadow floating across. A cry of panic shattered the stillness of the night, emanating from the TV.
"It must be a prank. I heard that the cry is heard in radios too," I said smiling dryly.
"But how could someone get access to the media broadcast system? People say that it's the troubled spirit of Melissa," he reasoned.
"Melissa was so nice. She would never haunt a place, even if she had died a horrible death," I lowered my eyes.
"But she committed suicide jumping down from the roof of the TV station. What must have driven her? She was a reporter with a good pay and I heard, a perfect love life," Alex wasn't convinced.
"She was my colleague and her love life was totally screwed up," I said, getting up, throwing the remote on the sofa and storming out of the room.
I slammed shut the door of my car and banged my head on the steering.
Suddenly there was a knock on my car window. It was foggy due to the cold.
I rolled down the windows and a figure in the dark whispered, "You know Sunlight Broadcasters?"
There she was, the stranger in town, asking everyone about my previous workplace.
"It's closed now. The place is in ruins," I slammed the window almost on her hand and started the engine.
But the damned car refused to budge.
Dejectedly I got out, determined to get home on foot.
Cutting through the cold fog, which threatened to choke me, hands in my pockets, I walked on till I realized that I had come in the wrong direction.
As I turned to retrace my steps, my eyes fell on the dilapidated building, with a huge dusty antenna!
Deja vu swept over me at seeing my old workplace. It was as if an unknown force drew me towards it.
I opened the creaky gates and the strong doors and went inside, flashing my torch.
The door slammed shut, and at the same moment my torch went out.
I felt chilled as a draft swept over me.
And to my utter horror, the air coagulation, becoming denser, till a human figure was before me.
"Melissa," a cry escaped my lips.
She gave a chilling smile, coming towards me.
I was hypnotized, glued to the spot.
"You pushed me from the roof," she glared.
"M... Melissa, I... It was an accident. You know that I was drunk and..."
"Your inebriation cost my life. I loved you. The greed for power made you take my life," she hissed, coming closer, her hair fluttering wildly.
"I'll do anything, compensate to your family... Anything," I begged.
"Pay with your life," her hands were at my throat, strangling me, "Don't worry. I won't give you an easy death, you'll suffer the pain I did..."
