The rain made a steady humming sound on the asbestos roof of the dreary sheds. The factories and the towering chimneys loomed large in the horizon and the streets were empty.

Clutching my shawl tighter, I was rushing through the rain, drenched and cold as the rain ran down my face, blending with my warm tears. The wind whipped me in the face for all I cared.

My mind was blank, my heart shattered. Dylan doesn't want me anymore. Why the hell did I even try to convince him? He'll hate me now. All his principles, morals and society, culture, religion and shit!!!

Suddenly I felt a tugging force and before I knew what was happening, I fell, face down on soft, wet grass.

Grass?

I was on concrete road.

I got up and scanned my surroundings to find myself in a forest which was still as death.

I felt as if someone was watching me. On an instinct, I glanced up and met a pair of red rimmed eyes.

The man effortlessly jumped onto the ground, his eyes holding mine, entranced and hypnotized.

Every piece of my being screamed to get away cause I knew what he was... But I was paralyzed under his predatory gaze.

"Young ladies don't come here," he muttered, his voice cold.

I tried to stand up. In the flash of a second, his hands were at my throat and his fangs at my neck. I closed my eyes, waiting for the impending death.

A feral cry ripped apart the night and my assailant slumped at my feet. A silver stake, pierced neatly through his heart.

I opened my eyes to see a girl, hair wild, the perfect incarnation of fury, her eyes deftly scanning the surroundings.

I cringed.

Finally she looked at me and her gaze softened as she rushed up to me.

"Are you okay?" she asked, gently helping me up.

I got a good glimpse at her pretty face and she looked familiar, as if I had known her all along.

"Hathaway, Rose," she extended her hands and immediately it clicked in my mind...

"Rose... I mean...Dimitri's Rose?" I stuttered.

"You know him?" she raised an eyebrow.

"Hell I know all of you. You're my favorite book characters."

"You gotta be kidding me. Someone wrote a book on us?"

"Donno... I can't take it anymore, with Dylan and all that crappy norms and..." I sobbed, dropping to the floor.

"Dylan?" her eyes were concerned.

"My love. He's my mentor but it's against his principles to get involved with me."

Rose's eyes widened.

"You're in the same situation as me and Dimitri..."

"Yes... But you won, I can't."
"Are you giving up hope?"
"There's nothing to hope. It was just another unfulfilled dream maybe."
"If your eyes weren't open, you wouldn't know the difference between dreaming and waking. But giving up isn't the way."

I nodded, still reeling from the strange encounter when she took my hand and we moved towards civilisation.
