"Who's there?" I whip around in panic, looking at the small dusty closet in the trashed room. My hands shake as I draw out my wand.

Lumos!

A faint rustling sound is heard as I cautiously creep towards the darkness, supported by the little light from the tip of my wand. The rusted door groans as I wrench it open.

Something brushes past in in a frenzy of force. I almost tumble out of balance as I try to turn around. Someone is standing behind me. The lights and shadows are playing on the pretty face of the willowy figure.

"Tanushree Di," I exclaim, running to hug her but she pushes me back roughly before I can even touch her. Stunned and speechless, I open my mouth to speak but the figure in front of me turns to a man with burnished skin and gorgeous black eyes. He holds up a bunch of cards.

"Anoop," I breathe. Those are the little tokens I had given him in those fleeting moments of love. He's smirking as he starts to tear them up lazily. The bits fly off in the eerie wind. My scarred heart shatters once more.

I look up. The silhouette has changed again.
Cute smile, long hair, graceful stance—

"Khushboo?" I question. I had never met her in real life. We met online and just clicked. It was such an unusually weird place and situation to meet someone I've been dying to meet for three years.

She's smiling as just stares at me. She too is holding something in her hand, which she throws towards me. It bounces off the wooden floor and lands at my feet. I realise a bit too late that it's a copy of the book I mailed to her for her birthday.

I pick it up slowly. Her eyes are now glassy, distant.

The pages of the book are yellowed and frayed with neglect.

"How dare you..." I start to ask but stop midway as my eyes fall on one single word scribbled with distaste, that was marring the beautiful red cover.

'GOODBYE'

The earth is  slipping from underneath me. My knees fail.

"No, please don't do this," I am aware of a heaving movement in my shoulders as they trembled in tearless sobs. I am frightened beyond my wits. Standing there, seeing my best friend walk away, I feel so hopeless.

They all hate me. They all abandoned me.I bury my face in my arms in defeat.  It is a reenactment of my worst fears coming true.

My worst fears? Wait!

I spring up fast, pointing the wand at her.

Riddikulus!

Nothing happens. My heart sinks. So this is all true. But the little saner part of me refuses to believe it.

Riddikulus!

I shout again with all the strength my voice could muster. The figure splutters and shakes as it turned to an emoji pin-cushion in the form of 'LOL'.

I sink to the floor in relief. That is one nasty boggart.
