She got dressed in silence, pulling on her favorite canary yellow hoodie before grabbing her coat and boots on her way out the door. Shutting and locking it quietly behind her, she pulled on the rest of her ensemble before venturing out into the frigid night air. She walked slowly, ambling almost, with no intent on going anywhere. Just walking. Breathing in the glacial air that she just couldn't become accustomed to. It almost hurt it was so cold, but it had a clean refreshing quality to it. She walked down the snow covered sidewalk contemplating just how drastically her life, her surroundings, she herself had changed. Not interested in continuing on her path to nowhere but not ready to head back, she dropped herself into the snow. Closing her eyes and letting her thoughts wander.
"Are you alright Miss?" Her eyes flung open and she gasped at the nearness of the boy leaning over her.
"Sorry." He gave a slight laugh. "I didn't mean to startle you. Just you know...make sure you weren't hurt."
"Oh...I'm fine. Just stargazing."
"With your eyes shut?" He let out a fuller laugh.
"Point taken." A small smile tweaked her purple lips. "I hate the snow."
"There's quite a lot of it here." He grinned plopping down next to her.
"I've noticed."
"I'm Kellan."
"Sasha."
"Do you mind if I ask why exactly you're laying in the snow, you admittedly hate, in the middle of the night?"
"My roommate's asleep." She replied closing her eyes again.
"Ah....and that led to snow how?"
"Well Kellan, I'm from the ocean. I've always lived by an ocean. I love it. Helps me think. So I thought, for want and obvious lack of an ocean, I'll try the snow."
"How's it working out for you?" He laid down next to her. "It is kind of nice out here."
"It is. But I can no longer feel my limbs, so I'm not really sure that it is in fact working out."
"I can see where that'd be a problem." She could hear the smile in his voice. "So Sasha from the ocean, there's a little cafe right near here that I was headed to, care to join me and regain the feeling in aforementioned limbs?"
"How do I know you aren't intent on killing me?" She sat up slowly and smiled down at him.
"You don't." He grinned getting up and holding a hand out to her. She studied his hand for a moment.
"You used aforementioned." She grinned and decided to take his hand. Kellan helped her to her feet and pointed out the cafe."I didn't know anything was open this late out here." She commented as they started trudging towards it.
"Most things aren't this is really the only place. It's nice though. They have little muffins and cupcakes and hot drinks."
"Cupcakes? I'm sold already." She smiled up at him. He towered over her, had to be at least 6', his hair was grown longer than most of the boys in the area, she could see the edges curling around the outside of the black beanie he wore under his coat hood. His smile lit up his whole face, making his gorgeous gray eyes dance with laughter. He was by far the most intriguing person she'd met since moving out to this frozen town.
When they reached the cafe she tugged her hands out of her pockets to grab the door, but he grabbed it first, holding it open for her.
"Who said chivalry was dead?" She said with a small laugh and a shake of her head.
