"W-why are you here?" She stuttered out.
"Obviously I work here." He kept grinning down at her. "Now. What can I get you ladies to eat this lovely Sunday morning?"
"I'll take the Pancake Special and she'll take the French Toast Special and we'll each have a cappuccino and a chocolate milk." Jane told him decisively, shooting Sasha a 'we'll talk about this later' look.
"Coming right up." Kellan smiled at Jane before smirking at Sasha quickly and turning to put their order in.
"Coincidence?" Jane asked folding her hands in the lap of her crossed legs.
"I don't believe in coincidences. You know that." Sasha narrowed her eyes in thought. "Do I chalk it up to fate? Or do I read into this?"
"Honey, not everything is in need of a war strategy." Her friend sighed shaking her head. "You're here for a reason, well, a lot of a reasons, one of them being some sort of peace of mind. Maybe you should step outside your normal thought processes."
"You act like it's easy." Sasha snarled. "Let them hunt 'you' down like an animal and we'll see how you feel about people you don't know."
"Relax Sash. Remember who you're talking to, okay?" Jane leaned towards her over the table. "I was there too. I live this life too. You're not the only one with nightmares. You should remember that."
"I'm sorry Jane." Sasha sighed, eyes scanning the room. "I do know that you didn't pick this either, and I know what you've done for me, especially hiding me out here at your own risk."
"Fuck 'em. It won't last forever, and I'm sure there will be repercussions for both of us, but it's worth it. Even if we only get a few months, freedom is worth whatever the price is."
"I can't believe I've had two whole weeks of peace." Sasha replied with a soft smile.
"So. The boy. First, how the hell did you meet him? Second, he likes you."
"First, I ran into him last night, well actually, he ran into me. I was laying in the snow."
"Yea because 'that's' safe." Jane scoffed.
"And second," Sasha glared at her friend, "I can't trust him so it doesn't matter."
"If that's what helps you sleep at night you just go on believing it. But you and I both know that boy is as safe as safe gets for us."
"Maybe you're right." She sighed.
"What might she be right about?" Kellan asked from over her right shoulder making her jump while her hand reflexively went for her gun. Pulling her hand back out she looked at Jane with a slight panic, hoping her friend would not divulge their conversation.
"The weather!" Sasha exclaimed as Jane opened her mouth to answer him. "She was just saying uh- what nice weather we're having for a Sunday!"
"She is indeed right about that." Kellan grinned placing their drinks in front of them. She suspected her knew that was not what they'd been talking about, but it wasn't exactly her best lie ever.
"So what was that about this being fate?" Jane asked Kellan with a look of innocence plastered across her face.
"She owes me her number." If at all possible, Kellan's grin grew.
"Well let me give it to you then." Jane smiled pulling out a pen and jotting it down on a napkin, handing the napkin to Kellan and smiling mischievously at Sasha, who watched the entire exchange with her mouth hanging open, glance darting back and forth between the two of them.
"Y-y-you!" Sasha exclaimed pointing at Jane.
"Very eloquent darling," Jane looked back up Kellan. "Sometimes she still needs to be reminded to use her words."
"Oh shut up!" Sasha glared at the pair of them while Kellan laughed loudly.
"Excuse me ladies, I have to be getting back." Kellan backed away trying to suppress more laughter.
"You shouldn't have done that." Sasha snapped, still glaring.
"Oh relax, what's the worst that can happen?" At Sasha's severe glare she recanted, "Okay okay so let's not focus on the worse case scenarios. Be your age Sasha, you don't know how long this little hiatus you've managed is going to last."
"My point exactly! What happens when this all disappears? I can't drag him into my nightmare."
"One Pancake Special and one French Toast Special." Kellan set their meals in front of them pulling a chair out and sitting between them.
"What are you doing?" Sasha asked in alarm.
"Obviously I'm sitting." He smiled.
"I can 'see' that, what I can't see is why."
"Unfortunately I don't have a mirror handy or I would show you. You're not exactly a morning person are you Sasha from the ocean?"
"I'm perfectly fine with mornings." Sasha said primly as Jane covered her hand with her mouth trying to stop laughing but failing.
"Am I to assume you're also an experienced liar?" Kellan asked cocking his head to the right slightly as he looked at her, never losing his smile. At this Jane laughed even harder while Sasha just shook her head at the irony while taking a bite of her French toast. It was, as always, exceptionally tasty. She was in fact an experienced liar, not that she was planning on being forthcoming with that information, but his belief that she wasn't bothered her a bit. It was actually a stroke of luck because it meant he'd believe her when it came time to lie for real, because every second she spent next to him brought that time closer.
