It stayed quiet for a few seconds. Then silent footsteps approached him. Slowly they became clearer and faster. Tony listened to the soft tripping that had turned into running. The footsteps came closer and closer. He looked through the bars in the direction the sounds where coming from. The person had stopped running at the corner. Then it went quiet again. For a few seconds there was no sound at all. Then came soft little sobs combined with heavy breaths. Tony recognized it from the video. It was her. It had to be now he thought about it. He hesitated for a few seconds. Then he softly said, almost whispered: "Hello?"
She made a small gasping noise and the sobs immediately stopped. 'Great. Now I scared her' he thought. He let out a deep sight and placed his head against the cold metal bars. There was no sound for the next few seconds. He didn't know what to do or what to say to her. He had to calm her down. But how?
That's when he saw movement from the corner of his eye. He looked in the direction and saw his daughter carefully peeking around the corner. He gave her a soft smile.
"It's alright, I'm not going to hurt you. It's alright." She came around the corner and slowly walked towards him. She stopped in front of his cell and tilted her head a little to the side. A confused expression filled her face.
"M- Mister St- Stark?"
"Yeah, yeah that's me. Are you okay? Does anything hurt?"
She carefully nodded her head and slowly put her hand on her ribs. Down the hall he heard someone pound a door. Muffled voices seemed to be yelling something from behind it. The little girl looked scared and turned in the direction.
"Hey, look at me. You're going to be alright. I'll get you out of here but you need to help me first. Can you do that?"
She slowly nodded her head, staring at Tony with tear filled eyes.
"Do you see that toolbox over there?"
He pointed at a big dusty box set on a desk. She looked at it and nodded again.
"Alright. Walk over there and see if you can open it up."
She did what he said. She opened the box making her eyes fill with tears again. The effort caused her ribs to hurt even more. She tried to push the lid off completely, causing the box to fall off the desk and sending all kind of tools crashing to the ground. She let out a small gasp and her hands flew to her ribs again. She was clutching her belly while tears streamed down her face.
"Hey, calm down kid. it's alright. Don't worry I'll get you out of here. See that screwdriver there?"
She shook her head, looking a little confused.
"pointy thing with the red handle. Right there." He said pointing at it. Her eyes followed his gaze and they fell on the thing. She was barely able to keep herself upright when she walked over to it. She picked it up and slowly walked over to him. Her breaths heavy and eyes filled with tears. It looked like every little movement hurt her. It probably did. She handed him the screwdriver.
Tony is not a doctor, but he could see her wrist was broken. More that once. He carefully took the screwdriver and started picking the lock. Right when he opened it, he heard the door open down the hall. Heavy footsteps came running closer and closer. He quickly swung the door of his cell open and ran out.
"come here!" He yelled. The little girl quickly got up from her spot on the floor, whimpering slightly with the effort, and struggled over to him. She could never outrun these guys in this state. Tony remember exactly the way he came there. He turned a corner and crouched down in front of her.
"listen to me, these guys are coming and I don't want you to get hurt even worse then you already are. But like this you aren't fast enough, so I'm going to pick you up and I want you to hold on tight, can you do that?"
She nodded, her eyes full of fear. He carefully picked the little girl up. She curled her legs around his waist and her arms where carefully swung around his neck. He started running, holding on tightly to his daughter. 'I should've told her' he thought.
He was quickly snapped out of it when he heard someone yell something about the guns. He quickly picked up his pace and turned another corner. The next hallway was a long one that let to an old, rusty, iron door. The exit.
He was almost at the door when the men turned the corner. The sound of gunshots filled the air as he pulled the door open. The whole building was already surrounded by SHIELD agents, but the men where still shooting at them. They probably hadn't done that before because they kept missing. He swung his daughter to his chest and put a hand over her head to protect her from the bullets coming their way. He ran outside while the agents past them towards the men coming their way. The SHIELD agents started shooting back and had the men down in an instant.
Tony still clutched the little girl tightly against his chest. She let out a soft whimper and he carefully loosened his grip on her. She tried to say something.
"d- dad?"
It was barely a whisper, but enough for him to hear. He looked down at her. One of her hands was down. Clutching at her side. Her hand was red and blood was pouring out of the wound. His eyes widened and he gasped in shock. He quickly laid her down and put pressure on the wound.
"Somebody! Help me! Hold on. You're gonna be fine. Hold on"
"Papa?" She looked at him with tears streaming down her face while little hands covered with blood reached for his hands. Holding them tightly in her own, he felt his eyes starting to get a little misty. A SHIELD medic came rushing to them and sat down next to her. He started applying bandages to the wound and got her ready to go on the jet. Tony held her hand until her grip loosened and she fell unconscious.
