We get to the place I saw Loki a little while ago. Only it's different now. The round glass cage is gone and left a hole in the ground. So I guess Loki got away as well. Great.
Dad told me what happened to Phil on our way here. It's really sad. I liked Phil and now he's gone. Just, not anymore. It's weird and it feels... unreal. I guess I just don't really realize he's actually gone. I see a spot of blood on the wall. That's where he died. Where Loki killed him.
I'm sitting on the hard metal ground, my feet hanging over the side where the cage once was. Dad is standing next to me. We just stay like this for a little while until Steve walks in.
He leans against the railing on the other side of the room. He crosses his arms over his chest before speaking up. "Was he married?"
"No." Dad responds sadly. "There was a cellists. I think."
"I'm sorry. He seemed like a good man."
And he was. I know he was. I'm expecting dad to say the same. But I did already find out that expecting things from Tony isn't always the best idea. I didn't understand it at first. But it didn't take long.
"He was an idiot."
Just proved my point.
Steve immediately asks "why? For believing?" I turn around quickly to look at Tony, only to forget where I'm sitting. I almost lose my balance. But I catch myself before I can fall.
"For taking on Loki alone."
"He was doing his job."
"He was out of his league. He should've waited. He should've.."
"Sometimes there isn't a way out Tony."
I get up and walk in their direction. The two men walking in each other's.
"Right. How did that work for'm"
Dad passed Steve and I quickly run over to be at his side.
"Is this the first time you lost a soldier?"
He turns around quickly, facing Steve.
"We are not soldiers."
It's quiet for a moment as I look between the two. Dad is the first one to speak up again.
"I'm not marching to Fury's fife."
"Neither am I. He's got the same blood on his hands that Loki does. But right now we gotta get that behind us and get this done. Now Loki needs a power source. If we can put together a list..."
Dad is looking over at the blood stain on the wall when he quickly interrupts the other man.
"He made it personal."
"That's not the point."
"That is the point. That's Loki's point. He hit us all right where we live. Why?"
"To tear us apart."
"Yeah divide and conquer is... great but he knows he has to take us out to win, right? That's what he wants. He wants to beat us, he wants to be seen doing it. He wants an audience."
Dad starts to walk away again. I turn a little to look at Steve who follows him.
"Right. I caught his act in Stuttgart."
"Yeah. That's just previews, this is, this is opening night." He claps his hands together a few times. "And Loki, he's a full-tilt diva, right?"
He walks up a few steps of stairs. I wait down them next to Steve, not really having energy left to climb them if I don't have to.
"He wants flowers, he wants parades." Dad continues, motioning his hands around him. "He wants a monument built to the skies with his name plastered..."
he stops mid sentence in realization. I think about what he just said. 'His name plastered on it.' Loki's going to Stark tower.
"Son of a bitch." He tilts his head down and makes his way down the steps again. See. Useless.
He walks off and I quickly follow him. Running a little to get back to his side.
We walk around the plane thingy. Steve went somewhere to put on his suit and dad is going to get his Ironman stuff. He turns around and crouches before me.
"Nova, I want you to go with Steve. They'll take you with them on a jet and fly over to the tower. When they get there I want you to get out and hide somewhere inside. Can you do that?"
I nod a little. "But I don't want to be with him, I wanna stay with you."
He looks me over quickly. A kind of confused look on his face. He takes my hands in his and looks at me.
"Well... you can't really come with me. It's just to dangerous. But I promise that I'll come back to you, alright? You'll be fine."
I give him a quick nod again. Straightening my back out and standing tall. I don't want them to see me as 'small'. I'm not scared. Dad's about to get up, but I quickly swing my arms around him. He doesn't react for a second until he realizes what I'm doing and he puts his arms around my back carefully. We stay like that for a few seconds until he lets go and takes my hands again.
"D'you think you can find your way back?"
"Yeah I can."
A small smile spreads over his face. I give him a smile back. He ruffles up my hair a little as I turn around to find Steve.
"Bye Nova."
I turn my head back to look at him while I walk away. He stands up but doesn't turn around. When I'm at the corner I give him a quick wave.
"bye dad!"
Another smile comes over his face and only when I'm completely out of sight, does he turn around as well.
