"I only ever saw my brothers like this once before. They were just young, 8 or so I guess. Larry had an accident and injured his face. Have you seen the scars?" Thea shook her head, she thought she would remember scars on Larry's face. Elodie nodded and continued, "That's because they are barely there. Laurent fell to pieces when it happened, but instead of coming to get his mother or a sibling, he held Larry to him. When there were found, probably no more than 30 minutes after it happened, Laurent could not be parted from Larry. It took three of us to pull him away, that skinny little boy, three grown people." Elodie stopped to stretch her back a bit.

"What happened when you separated them?"

"It had been as if Larry's wounds had been healing, but when we pulled Laurent away, they reopened as if the injury had only just happened. It had only just happened, they should not have been healed at all. Once they were no longer touching, Larry's wounds reopened and Laurent had scratches on his face in the same place as Larry. Then both of them fell unconscious. Larry was taken to a hospital, Laurent was brought home. Mami did not bring Larry home when he woke, thinking he would heal best at the hospital. But he was inconsolable to be parted from his brother, to the point that he became incoherent and confused. Laurent would wake for moments but as soon as he realized Larry was gone, he would fall unconscious again." She stopped, this time gently shaking her head has she stared at the glossy floor. "It was not until Mami decided to bring Larry home that my brothers came back to us. Mami put them in the same bed and they immediately curled together like babes in the womb, never opening their eyes. They stayed like that for several days, I do not remember how many, only Mami attended to them. Then one day they woke up, just like that. Larry's wounds were completely healed and Laurent's scratches were gone."

Thea and Elodie walked on in silence. Thea was trying to wrap her mind around what she had just heard. Everything related to Larry and Laurent this week had left her questioning the world she thought she understood, and how little she really knew of the twins. What she was seeing and hearing was the stuff of fantasy or science fiction. Elodie stopped her with a hand on her shoulder and looked at her intently.

"Thea, don't try and understand what you have witnessed. You never will, it belongs solely to Larry and Laurent. It is something incredible and beautiful, consider it as my brothers sharing some of their gift with you, what a blessing to be given something so precious." Elodie pulled Thea into her strong arms. "I do not know how Mami knows of Larry's love for you, but she would never say it if it wasn't true. You are so loved by all of us Thea," she stepped back and cupped Thea's face in her hands, "Now then, you take care of your business for the day and then treat yourself to something that will feel good. Let Mami and I tend to the sleeping babes. I will text you if anything important happens." Then she kissed Thea's cheeks and headed off back down the hall, leaving Thea standing rather lost.

"Bye then," said to Elodie's retreating back. She doubted that she even heard. Thea locked her fingers behind her neck as she looked for signs that would lead her to where the car waited. "Well," she said out loud to herself, "time to meet Sarah Ember."
