Jung Hoseok
The lab was huge. High ceiling and with rows upon rows of working slabs, strewn with an assortment of objects, from papers and pencils to test tubes and chemical bottles. Shelves lined the walls, full to the brim with other objects of the sort.
There was no one else there except us.
“Where are the other scientists?” Jungkook asked, voicing my thoughts.“Escaped. Hiding. Dead. Who knows.” Dr. Young shrugged. “I stayed behind. It was primarily my fault all of this happened anyway....”
Start of flashback
“The serum is not fit for use yet.” The young man in a white lab coat proclaimed. “It is unstable and it is dangerous--”
“Dr. Byun, you will do as I ask.” The woman with long blonde hair tied up in a bun replied. “As head of the Kinectogrowth Project, I have every right to demand this.”
“But Dr. Young--”
“No buts.” Her gaze softened considerably. “It worked on the test subjects, why should it not work on the others?”
“Because everyone's DNA is different! Their qualities are different, their fingerprints are different. We cannot possibly assure that a serum targeting only ten people can accommodate the whole world!”
“I cannot do anything. We can further progress it later. Right now, the public demands this.”
The man shook his head. “This seems wrong, what if something went amiss--”
His words cut off as a siren blared throughout the building and red lights flashed. “What's happening!?” Dr. Young demanded.
“It's the test subjects!” A young scientist probably in her twenties replied. “They're acting crazy!”
And all of a sudden the building shook with the force of a large bang and people started screaming outside.
“The containment area exploded.”
“Send people there, now!” Dr. Young yelled, going over to view the security camera feed. What she saw made her heart race. All of the ten people, of whom six were children, were....undead. Their eyes were sunken and ghoulish, their mouths foaming, their skin turned gray and with bluish black scabs. They were slowly limping out into the outside air through the exploded wall.
“No, no no no no.” she panicked. “Get the security out there!”
“I'm trying, they're not responding!” Byun was dialling and re-dialling the hotline, to no avail. Both glanced at each other in despair.
“What are we supposed to do now?”
End Of Flashback
“And we tried to discover the cure, until he was sadly attacked yesterday and died.” Dr. Young finished her tale, while the four boys stared at her in wonder.
“So....have you found anything?” Namjoon asked hopefully.
“I think so.” She huffed in frustration. “But without Byun, it's really hard. His skill in chemical neutrophysics was unparalleled.”
