It was an unexcited trip to the college for me, for my cousin dear, it wasn't. He was continuously babbling about how my absence past 3 years have affected me, what all I have missed and other stuff. I on the other hand was again disturbed. The roads of Mint Town were freaking me out. I remembered running across these roads hand in hand with Alex when we were some eight years old, walking close to each other sharing the same umbrella after getting totally drenched, pushing him into that water puddle and then running away. A sad smile popped on my face. This was going to be my new start, at college, without him. NO, I don't want this numbness to take over me. I will not think about him. I will not let that damn hole in my heart to become a black hole.
We reached the college shortly, "Em, you need to cheer-up. You look like an old hag." Eddie said placing a hand on my shoulder. How much I love my cousin.
"Yeah, sorry. Let's get to that interview room and grab my admission. I bought all the important documents. Do you think, they will approve me?" I asked him.
"I think chances are small. No one wants an 18-year-old hag studying technology." he said playfully. In return he received a smack.
"Damn you brother, you are supposed to encourage me." I huffed at him.
"Just go, vanish you ungratefully old hag." With that he pushed me into the interview room.
After just 10 minutes of random question-answer, 2 minutes of scrutinizing my grades, and few more minutes of me convincing them, they took me in. In a town like Mint, where children are as rare as ghosts, schools and colleges accept any student. They want to fill their seats and no-one from outside will come into a small town. I walked out of the interview room contented with myself.
"Emma, Emma you are back." someone shrieked from parking lot. Not hard to guess, not difficult to recognize, it was my sweetheart, Lisa. A slender, blonder girl, nearly as high as I am but paler. She was looking even more beautiful in her sleeveless pink top and blue skinny jeans. She jumped over me and hugged me tightly. "Oh my God Em, you are back, I missed you so much." she whimpered. Obviously, I missed her too.
" I am so sorry Li. But I am back and we will make up to the three lost years." I told her.
"Yeah, Yeah. Do you know Ed has a girlfriend and she is a bitch?" She asked me frowning. I laughed out loud. Out of all the things I have missed, she was complaining about my cousin's girlfriend.
"He didn't tell me anything about her, what is her name and how is she a bitch?" I asked her.
"Don't ask me, ask him. He is already coming." She said pointing towards my brother.
"Hey Ed, I got Computer Science. The college wants 18-year-old hags, you see." I said triumphantly.
"What, how, why did they take you?" He tried disguising his happiness with disgust. That is what you can expect from a brother, and he received another smack.
"You, how can you say that to her. Go and enjoy with your bitch of a girlfriend." Lisa said gruffly pointing a finger at his nose. Ok, so there is a matter that I may not know about. I eyed Ed, he ignored my gaze. I tried making eye contact with Li, she too ignored me. They kept on glaring at each other.
"Go on, continue the glare game. I am heading towards department. I need to collect the schedule." and with that I left them.
Author's note
Introducing new characters is always a tough deal. It takes a lot of patience to build a character. I introduced a new one in the chapter, so yay! I feel proud. And my amazing reader, please point out the grammatical errors which might have crept in. Stay Tuned because a lot will happen in coming chapters.
Let us all play a game, I ask question you give answers.
