1. Home Again

I was running frantically away from nothingness. My legs were not cooperating any more, they were trembling, out of fear maybe, maybe not. I was sweating hysterically and my breath was getting shorter with each hop forward. I could feel the dread in the air making the insides of my stomach churn out of sickness.

"Emma, Emma", I heard my name from far away. It was a muffled voice.

"Emma, honey." I stopped dead on my tracks as the voice approached me. The voice was laced with care. I felt a wave of relieve wash over me. I turned around to see a man. Dark in complexion, with bushy eyebrows. I shrieked not because he was scary (which he definitely was), but his face was changing constantly. All the frown lines faded into a much softer expression. The beard was changing and then it vanished and the face was now of a woman, Mom!

"Honey, get up. It's just a nightmare." Her voice was clear. Phew!

"Emma, are you, all right?" I opened my eyes to her cooing, blinked twice. Wait, where was I? The panic rose again within me when I realised this wasn't my room.

"HONEY, ARE YOU LISTENING?"

"Yes, mom quit shouting." I groaned placing hands over my ear and flipped to the other side.

"What happened? You were screaming as if you were being nailed to death." Mom asked with a disastrous expression invading her face making her brows cover the small v part of her forehead. Her pretty face looked horrified.

"It was just a bad dream mom, you see I am fine." I fake-beamed at her. Thankfully colour returned to her face.

'Ok then go take a bath and come down, your aunt is waiting for you." She closed the door at her last word.

So, I was at my uncle's place. I waited for a few moment recalling everything that happened in last few days. Dad received a transfer letter, had to report within two days at his new workplace. So, we all rushed from the capital to Mint Town. Ah! This place. This damned place.

I, after completing, my morning routine ran down to meet my aunt Tiana. She embraced me into one of her very famous bear hugs.

"Emma, you have grown so taller. Last night, I didn't even have a chance to steal a glance at you."

"No problem Tiana, where is Jack?"

"He is at work hon." She answered offering me my breakfast.

"And where is the excuse of yours, you call your son?" I asked her thrusting the toast in my mouth. She laughed.

"I am not an excuse, you are." Someone hugged me from behind. Ah! My cousin dear.

"You came just in time for college. We are going to enjoy it together, just like we did the school before you moved out." He said taking a piece of toast off my plate.

I looked towards my mom, there she sat with a sad look in her beautiful brown eyes. She knew exactly what the turmoil I was facing.

So, this was the first part. My 17 year self wrote this and somehow when I read it today I felt a bit nostalgic remembering my post school time.
