Carmens Flash Back**
Ellie and I took a walk in the woods again today because Melissa and her friends were being mean. Melissa kept blowing our hair around calling me Dud. It's not my fault I haven't manifested yet. To make matters worse, Jackson and the other boys kept making jokes behind my back.
"I'm so happy you're my friend Ellie," I say as we walk on the very worn path deeper into the woods. It was hot in the middle of summer, especially at Camp Wakina. "She turned and smiled at me, "Don't mind them, their just jealous idiots. Besides, if they knew the real you, they would realize you're an amazing person and a great friend." I smile too, Ellie was a really cool friend.
"Thanks, Ellie, you know you don't have to stay with me. You can go with the others." Ellie was powerful and could control and grow plants. It was really neat to see her work her magic. "No! I like you so much more, you're kind, talented, pretty, and funny. I like you especially because you're not mean."
I stop in the middle of the path waiting for her to finish gesturing about a specific flower by a couple bushes when we heard a howl. "What was that!?" Ellie squeals jumping behind me. It was a mangled cry of pain in the direction of the camp. I grabbed Ellie's hand, "Come on! Something needs our help!" Without waiting for her I run back to camp.
I was too worried to get back that I didn't see the rock in the middle of the path. My right foot steps on it awkwardly, before going out from under me, forcing my knee to roughly pushing against it. The jagged rock scraped my knee open. "Owwww," I moan as Ellie helped me back up. Another cry filled the air and we took off running again. I ignored the pain as we sped into the campground.
A bunch of people was gathering around something that was whimpering in a circle. I could hear Jackson and Melissa's voices from the outside ring where we were standing. They were laughing at whatever was there. I push through some kids who pushed me back until I was in the inner ring.
There was a baby brown wolf in the middle of the circle hunched down in one of Jackson's animal traps. He was crying, trying to break free, biting at the ropes binding him. Jackson walked around it, kicking it once; the monster.
"Hey stop!" I yell trying to get his attention. He didn't seem to hear me. I look around the circle seeing most of the people were smiling and egging him on. These were the kids I went to school with. Jackson laughed and kicked him again. The wolf howled in pain flipping himself over. I couldn't take it anymore, this was animal abuse.
I jump on Jackson's back when he tried to kick him again. "I said stop! This isn't right you sick monster!" He toppled over surprised by the sudden weight. "Hey get off of me Dud!"
"No, not until you promise to stop hurting him, Jackson. This is animal abuse!" I yell loudly so everyone can hear me. I don't know why any of the camp directors aren't here stopping this. All of a sudden something grabs my hair yanking me off him.
I cry out grabbing my head getting thrown to the ground. "You stupid Dud! You're in no place to judge." I look up at Melissa. Her brown hair blew around as she shifted the wind around her body. I felt so much anger, anger at her, Jackson, and everyone else.
