Carmen's POV***
Hey Tanner! I would love to hang out with you tomorrow! Just tell me what time you want me to be ready. Also, I'm doing fine, thanks for asking and don't worry about Aaron and his brothers. I think it's a great idea to hang out more, and I regret not texting you during the summer. -Carmen
I laugh while pressing send. I guess things are starting to turn up for the better. I can't remember the last time I've been on a date. I look up to see Khalene and Ellie smiling like idiots. I do a double take noticing what Khalene was doing. Specifically what she was eating.
"Is that...a jar of mayonnaise?" I squint looking closer at the blue and yellow label. Her hand was poised in the air with a spoon full of white spread halfway to her mouth.
"Yeah...so?" Khalene continues her action, lifting the plastic spoon to her mouth. I gag looking away.
"That is absolutely disgusting!" I heave on dry air covering my nose when the scent finally reaches my nostrils. "How can you eat that?"
Ellie looks at us amused before turning to Khalene, "Do you know how bad that is for your body? All the chemicals that they use in that?"
Khalene looks away guiltily before digging the spoon back inside the jar, "Yeah I know, but I'll just burn out the calories with all the training we do anyway."
I walk into the bathroom turning on the fan to get rid of the smell, "That's not the point, it's disgusting and really bad for you. How can you even eat that by itself? The room's going to smell like mayonnaise now." I look away turning green.
Khalene reluctantly puts the lid back on the jar tightening it. I watch from the bathroom doorway as she places the jar in the drawer of her nightstand. "I was stress eating."
Ellie's eyes bulge from her head, "You call that stress eating? I call that the Fat Express." She pulls an imaginary cord, "Choo Choo, next stop your thighs."
I laugh when Khalene shoots her a glare, "Whatever man, I'm feeling stressed." She hops onto her bed laying out with her hands resting behind her head.
I shake my head going over to my own dresser, "We'll work on your poor eating habits later. I've got a date to worry about." I start sifting through my drawers looking for different outfits when Ellie grabs my shoulders steering me over to the coffee table and couch.
"No, we've got a date to worry about, you have stacks of paper to work on." She winks before placing the pencil in my right hand. "You get to work on this, and Khalene and I will work on your outfit."
I roll my eyes, "Sure, thanks, mom." I look down at the other half of English work I have yet to finish. "I've got a long ways to go."
Khalene gets up squealing, clapping her hands together like a little girl on Christmas. Her bad mood instantly gone, "Oh my gosh, we should give you a makeover!"
I look up alarmed before accidentally breaking the led from my pencil. "Oh shoot!" I place the pencil down standing up calmly. "Khalene, the date isn't until tomorrow. Why would I get a makeover today? Besides, I don't even know where we'll be going." It takes a lot of effort to control my panicked breathing. Khalene and makeovers was not a thing I wanted to be a part of. It was something I'd already gone through when Tanner first asked me out a year ago.
Trust me, the amount of hair pulling, shopping, and yelling was enough to last me for years to come. It was like Khalene had a separate personality that only came out during that time. She reminded me of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Khalene frowns until we all hear the ping of a message coming from my phone. She looks up smiling evilly and swipes it from my hand. "I'll bet you anything that this is from him." She enters my password and expertly scrolls through my messages. Her smile widening more and more as she reads through it.
