Chapter 2

Lucy's POV

One Month Later

I sighed as the light from my window streamed into my room, shining brightly on my face. I looked at the clock and saw it was eight a.m. pulling the white comforter over my head I groaned.

"Get up. I want you out by the pool in ten." I rolled my eyes. Even though Ace couldn't see, it made me feel better to disrespect him in that small way.

Ace gave me anything I wanted, as long as it made him look good, so my closet was full of clothes. I chose to wear my bikini top with some blue jean shorts and some simple black flip flops.

I walked through the Alpha's mansion and grabbed a banana on my way out the glass doors onto the patio with the enormous pool.

The Alpha was sitting in one of the white pool chairs quietly talking to Harley. When Ace saw me he stretched his arms out and pulled me onto his lap.

It felt wrong to be in such an intimate position with someone I despised but I had to remind myself I was doing it to keep Barron and myself alive. I sighed as he began rubbing his hand over my thighs.

"I'll call you later, Harley." And with that Harley was dismissed.

"Lucy?" Ace turned to me.

"Hmm?" I asked refusing to meet his fierce grey eyes.

"Do you know what a mate is?" He asked. I looked up and met his gaze. I shook my head. The word sounded familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. "When a werewolf sees his mate all of his or her priorities shift until the only thing that matters is their mate. A mate to a werewolf causes strong love, so strong it is almost impossible to resist. It can be a werewolf's downfall or their greatest strength. "Ace was looking at me with and intensity I had never seem from him.

"I'm not.... Am I...?" I fumbled with the bottom of my shorts terrified of his answer but after a moment he began to chuckle.

"Oh, God no. I have yet to find my mate. And even if I did, there is no way it would be you." I felt relieved and scared at the same time. When he found his mate I would be of no use to him. He would kill Barron and me in the blink of an eye.

"I need to claim you, though. It's what a wolf typically does to a mate but I need everyone to know you are mine; mate or not." He kissed just below my earlobe. I started to get scared of how he planned on claiming me when he began to trail kisses onto my neck. He stopped at a spot below my jaw and began kissing. After a while I knew there had to be more to claiming then just making a love bite but he didn't do anything other than that.

"That should be good enough for now. I'll wait for later tonight to claim you." He grinned. I was repulsed.

Worried about what would happen tonight, I pushed away from him and ran into the house, locking myself in one of the bathrooms. I sat against the wall and cried. I knew there would be a few hours where I wouldn't be missed. Ace didn't care about me. To him I was just something he owned.

I didn't realize how long I had been hiding in the bathroom until I walked out and saw the sky was dark. I went into my room to find Ace laying on the bed. "Hello."

I rolled my eyes and walked into my closet to get towels and clothes to take into the bathroom so I could shower. "I know you're mad at me."

"Wow. I don't know what made you think that." He shot a glare to remind me that I was below him and that speaking that way was unacceptable.

"The Pack gathering is in two hours. I expect you to be ready and looking good." He smiled and kissed my cheek on his way out of the room.

I took a shower and stood in front of my closet for the second time that day. I decided to go with a short black A-line with lace sleeves and black sandals. My hair was in a crown braid around my head. I decided to wear a light coat of make-up which mainly consisted of light brown eyeliner to make the green in my hazel eyes stand out.
