Fayaaz's POV

Winter. Winter. Winter.

Christmas Trees. Santa Claus. Mistletoe. Boxing Day. New Years Eve.

Winter in London, thats what it all consisted of. For every other person, the month of December would be a joyous celebration filled with christmas presents and traditions followed by an over the top new years eve outing.

For me, there was no break, no holiday, no party. It was a constant work life I had going on for the past few weeks, a life filled with documents and papers and legal issues to handle.

Not to mention the paranoia that lingered in the back of my mind, the doubt that my plan would fail. I was so close, so close. There were just the last few pieces of the puzzle that needed to fall into place for my plan to succeed.

And with a new year came new hope and new resolutions.

I will be the sole owner of Adam Industries.

I will make the company prosper more than they have in the past.

I will let nothing stand in my way. Nothing. No one.

The Sunday after New Years, everyone was dealing with their throbbing burning hangovers during the frosty winter. Serves them right for being drunk out of their minds.

I could hear the commotion and music and people on the night of New Years while I stayed at home working on one of the many new endeavours I planned for the company.

I didn't see the need to join the senseless people down there with their booze and banter. I didn't see the need in wasting precious time. I had all the time to waste after I gained sole ownership of the company.

Until then, there was no party to attend, no event to celebrate.

So instead of enjoying what I like to call hangover Sunday in the comforts of my bed, I decided to go to work. I walked into the company building. The quiet lifeless building that didn't have a soul within it.

I walked towards the marble lifts that would take me to my sanctuary: my office. I didn't view working in a disdainful manner. I viewed it as an essential; its what I needed to keep going, to keep succeeding, to get bigger to get better, I needed to work.

The ping of the elevator drew my attention and I walked out into the waiting room of my office.

And there on a glass table was a packet.

A packet.

A cream and gold packet with swirls.

I was the last to leave the office on Friday night.

I would have seen it if it had been there.

But it hadn't been there.

It was probably only placed there recently.

More specifically today.

I heard the click of shoes against the marble floor and turned around, shocked at the sight before me.

'So you are alive.'

'What are you doing here?' I didn't know whether to be furious or whether to be shocked that she found me.

'You're seriously asking me that?! You're asking ME what I'm doing?!'

I could sense bitterness in her voice but that didn't affect me. Whether she hated me or not, I wouldn't let her distract me from my goal.

'The premises are closed.'

'Oh are they? Then why are YOU here?'

'Look just tell me how you came here!' My patience was running thin. I had no time for games.

'You should learn to leave less bread crumbs the next time you want to disappear off the face of the Earth. For starters, pick a country where you have no family members.'

She had a point.

I had family that lived in London.

But so what?

This wasn't about disappearing.

This was about the business.

And whether it was situated in London or in Timbuktu, I would chase after it.

'This isn't a game. Its not about me leaving or disappearing or whatever you think it is.'

'Oh its not? Then pray do tell what this IS about Fayaaz?!'

'Its nothing that concerns you.'

She stepped back and looked around. She just looked around then looked back at me with a knowing look.

'Do you think I'm stupid? Really? Its nothing that concerns me?'

I kept my head high and folded my arms waiting to see what she would say.

'What do you take me for Fayaaz, an idiot? I KNOW this is all about the family business! Keyword there FAMILY! So yes, this does concern me and everyone I love and care for!'

And before I knew it she lunged at me and slapped me across my face. She tugged at my hair till my ear was next to hear mouth and whispered with all the bitterness in the world,' Don't god damn tell me it doesn't concern me.'

She released my hair and shoved me backwards. 'Have a bitter new year.'

And with that she stormed off.

God knows where she stormed off to because in that moment, I was shocked.

More shocked than I had ever been in my life.

Shocked with fear and terror and shocked with unknown feelings.

But I swallowed it all up.

I had to.

After all I had a new years resolution to stick to. And NO ONE would stop me.
