What’s The Point?
Chapter 19
Gibbs was nearly finished making the photo frames. He used to make them all the time for Shannon, so he could usually finish them quiet quickly. He was carving a design into the last one, when his cell rang. He wiped his hands on his USMC sweater and answered it without looking at the caller ID.
“Gibbs.”
“Hey dad…it’s me.” Tony’s nervous voice sounded into his ear.
“Hey, Tony. Everything okay?” Gibbs asked, worried that something was wrong.
“Err…I guess so…no…I don’t know…” Gibbs’ gut started churning.
“Tony? Son? Are you okay?”
“Sorta…it’s just…can you come and pick me up from the school in Baltimore?” Tony asked so quietly, that Gibbs had to strain to hear it. He ran up room the basement and grabbed his car keys.
“Sure. Is everything okay?” Gibbs asked again.
“I’ll explain later. Just hurry.” Gibbs heard his son’s voice crack. “Please.”
“Sure, Tony. I’ll be there soon. Just hang tight, okay?” He promised, jumping into the car.
“O-okay.” Tony whispered, before hanging up. Gibbs slightly scared. What happened, that Tony wanted him to pick him up, even though he had the truck?

In true Gibbs style, he was at the school in less than 30minutes. When he arrived, he saw Tony pacing up and down in front of the school, biting his lip nervously. He pulled up slowly to where Tony was. He rolled down the window.
“Tony?” Tony stopped pacing and looked up. Tears pooled in his eyes when he saw Gibbs. Tony opened the backseat car door and got in silently. Gibbs was even more worried now. Tony had never got into the backseat willingly. It must be something really bad. He turned in his seat. “Tony? What’s wrong, bud?”
“Go round back to the parking lot, please.” Tony whispered, staring out the window.
“Okay…” Gibbs made his way to the parking lot, while sneaking glances at Tony. When he parked in a spot, he got out of the car, and moved to sit in the back next to Tony.
“Tony, son. What’s wrong?” Tony didn’t say anything, just handed Gibbs the keys for his truck. Gibbs took them, frowning. He got out the car, and scanned the lot for the truck. He pressed the unlock button on the keys, hoping to see – or hear – the truck unlocking. He saw where his truck was, and, for some reason, a bunch of teenagers were surrounding it. He jogged over to it.
“Hey! What’s going on here?” he asked, pushing his way through the crowd. “It’s not safe hanging about in parking lots!”
“Someone’s spray-painted your car dude!” someone called to him. When Gibbs finally made his way to the front of the crowd, he saw all the hurtful words on the truck. He turned to the kids.
“Did one of you do this!?” all the teens shook their heads. “Go on, get to class.” The kids moved away, and Gibbs went back to the car, understanding why his boy was upset. He sat in the back again, noting how Tony refused to look at him. He pulled the kid into a hug. “Talk to me, Tony.” Tony was silent for a moment.
“Are they stalking me, dad?” he whispered.
“Who, Tony?” It was then, when Tony remembered he hadn’t shown Gibbs the note he got earlier. He pulled it out of his pocket and handed it over.
“Whoever wrote this…” he whispered, pulling away and looking out the window again. Gibbs frowned, opening and reading the note.
“Aww, hell, Tone.” He said softly, after reading it – multiple times. He pulled the younger man into a hug, but, was surprised when Tony flinched, and jerked away from his touch. Gibbs didn’t mention it though, he just gave the kid some space. “When did you get this?”
“It was on my desk this morning?” Tony mumbled in reply.
“Did you see who put it there?” Gibbs asked. Tony shook his head. Gibbs was unsure what to do next. Tony was obviously unsettled by the note and the truck, but anyone would be.
“Can we go home, please?” Tony asked softly. Gibbs moved some of Tony’s brown hair out of his eyes.
“Sure, kiddo. I’ll get someone to pick up the truck later.”

The drive back to Washington was silent and awkward. Gibbs tried to start a conversation with his son, but was only answered with shrugs or nothing at all. When they got home finally, Tony mumbled something about going upstairs to read, and quickly disappeared upstairs, while Gibbs went back down to the basement to think. What Gibbs didn’t know, was that Tony wasn’t upstairs reading. He was upstairs, in the bathroom, cutting his stomach with a razor.
