What’s The Point?
Chapter 21
Tony and Gibbs were back home, eating pizza. Well, Gibbs was eating, Tony was attempting to eat. His gut was telling him something wasn’t right…he just didn’t know what.
“What’s wrong, Tone?” Gibbs asked, after seeing the kid had only eaten one slice of the greasy food. Tony looked up.
“Huh? Oh, nothing. Just not hungry.”
“You sure?” Gibbs asked. Tony nodded.
“Yerp.” Tony stretched out on the couch, putting his socked feet on the coffee table in front of them.
“Oh, I almost forgot. I finished your photo frames. I’ll go get them for you.” Gibbs told his ‘son’, stepping over the stretched out legs to get past.
“’m ‘kay.” Tony mumbled sleepily, with his eyes closed, suddenly feeling very tired. As Gibbs made his way to the basement, he couldn’t help think about the conversation he had with Agent John Oak earlier that day.
Flashback
Gibbs was on his way to get some coffee, but, just before he reached the elevator, Tony’s friend John came up to him.
“Gibbs? Can I talk to you for a moment?” Gibbs frowned slightly, but nodded, walking over to John’s team area. The rest of the team seemed to be out, probably for lunch.
“What’s the matter?” John looked around, as if to make sure no-one was listening to their conversation. He took a note out of his pocket and passed it to the older agent. Gibbs’ frown deepened, but, he took the note and read it anyway.
“I would not talk to Agent DiNozzo,
unless you care to be associated to a freak
who belongs in Ward 4 for cutting himself.”
Gibbs looked up sharply.
“Where did you get this?” he whispered dangerously.
“I found it on my desk a few days after I finished talking to Tony.” John told him. “You seem close to him, and that’s why I’m telling you and not T. I know that if I told him, he would have a panic attack and shut down.” Gibbs mulled that over for a few moments, with a frown on his face.
“Do you believe what this note says?” John shook his head.
“No. No way Tony would hurt himself.” John was shaking his head, worry in his eyes, hoping his best friend was okay.
“And what would you do if this was true?” Gibbs asked carefully. Panic set over John’s features.
“What?! No! Tony wouldn’t do that! He’s not like that!”
“I’m not saying that Tony does harm himself.” Gibbs said, trying to keep John calm. “I just need to know that you will not hurt Tony if he did do this.”
“I…I would make sure he was getting help.” John told Gibbs. Gibbs nodded.
“Okay…leave this with me, and I’ll talk to him about it.” Gibbs told John, pocketing the note.
“Okay. Thanks, Gibbs.” Gibbs nodded, making his way to the elevator. As he was walking away from John, Ziva walked past him, on her way to the bathroom, and he was pretty sure he saw her smirk evilly.
Flashback over
He shook his head as he grabbed Tony’s two frames, and a third, slightly larger frame. He made his way quickly back up to the living room, where he found Tony dozing on the couch. He chuckled softly, patting the younger man’s cheek as he stepped over his legs to sit back down. Tony’s eyes popped open.
“Huh? Just…just resting my eyes.” Tony mumbled, rubbing his eyes with a curled up hand.
“Yeah, yeah.” Gibbs laughed. “Here ya go.” He placed the frames on Tony’s lap.
“Thanks.” Tony smiled up at him shyly, before frowning a little. “I only asked for two?”
“I know.” Gibbs smiled. Tony looked at the two empty frames with a smile, tracing the engraved patterns with his fingers.
“They’re beautiful, dad.” Tony placed the frames on the coffee table, before turning his attention to the third frame. It brought tears to his eyes. It was filled with photos of Tony with Gibbs, Abby, Ducky, Palmer, and all of his other friends. Tony turned to Gibbs, throwing his arms around the older man’s neck. “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome, son.”
