Chapter 17: Believing

Wang So POV

I was in the middle of shooting an action scene when my manager calls out to me and informs me that someone who went by the name of "my person" in my phone contacts, was calling.

"You're dating?" he asked me, curiously as I took the phone from his grasp.

"No. I don't date" I clarified truthfully and answered the call.

"Joongi" she said.

"Shouldn't you call me Oppa? I'm older than you."

"Does it look like I care?" Ha Jin said bluntly. I sniggered and said, "Tell me, are you bored and yearning for me?"

"No, you narcissist. I called to tell you that I'll be leaving for the US with your sister next week and will not return for two months."

"Oh"

"Yeah-"

"-ok-"

"-yeah-"

"-awkward-"

"Totally."

"I'll miss you" I said, honestly.

"Ok. That's nice of you."

"Shouldn't you say 'I will miss you too'?"

"What are you, my mom? I'll just be gone two months. If you will miss me that bad, follow me" Ha Jin said flatly.

"I will. And when I catch you there, I'll make you go crazy"

"Dream on, lover boy" and she giggled. Ha Jin rarely giggled. And when she did, it was adorable.

"Are we meeting today?"

"Uh no. I will be occupied today with work. We can text tonight though. Post 11pm."

"Awesome. I'm nocturnal."

"Right. Ciao."

"Bye"

And I returned to filming my scene. 

I think I filmed it with a little too much energy. The director got quite a shock at the sudden surge of energy level. And he couldn't stop praising me for the angry that I portrayed in the scene.

I was playing to Ha Jin's tune when I actually wanted to just take her away.
But I couldn't do that.
I couldn't be impatient and impulsive.

That had cost me Hae Soo.

I am not going to lose Ha Jin.

I had to be patient. But I also had to stay focused.

But there was a voice in me
That kept nagging

Am I being distant and cold?

Was there a need to be the way she was with me?

Wouldn't that show her that I'm not really in for the long haul?
Maybe that was her perception already.
Maybe that is her expectation.

But I want her forever.

Patience, I told myself. Patience.
But honestly, I'm confused.

Two weeks later

I walked down the red carpet with my brother, Haneul. We were attending the awards ceremony and we are really the object of much interest since we are possibly the most dapper looking men right now.

Haneul's co-star Shieun looked really gorgeous as she followed behind us and I noticed that Hanuel kept his eyes on her. I smiled and told him that he should walk with her and I walked ahead. He found it awkward and protested but I abandoned him.

It was good that I did.

Shieun tripped over her gown and...

...well you know how it goes.

My brother just became Prince Charming.

And click click the cameras went as they walked hand in hand behind me, Shieun, scarlet and happy.

Haneul joined me soon enough looking pretty pleased.

"Woo Hyuk is coming with Seohyun" he told me.

"Is that wise? It will lead to speculation"

"I think they don't care" Haneul shrugged.

He was right. And we had another brother sitting with us as the evening proceeded.

What possessed Ha Jin to continuously text me at this time, I had no idea. She knew I was at a function and really couldn't text her much but she was suddenly chattering like there was no tomorrow. I replied enthusiastically but Haneul and Woo Hyuk were glaring at me.

Why was she so chatty today?

I excused myself and rang her up.
She answered.
Was she crying? Her voice was trembling.

No wonder she was behaving differently?
She had been quite taken aback by my choice to call her up.

"Why did you call? You have a function and your absence will be noticed."

"Talk to me" I told her gently.

She was quiet for a while and I could hear her sniffle at the other end. She didn't say anything and I stayed on my end, patiently, wishing I was there with her instead.
To help her.
And calm her down.

I started to sing.
I don't know what drove me to sing.
But I sang.

Softly and gently.
The sniffles reduced gradually as the song proceeded. It was just a verse but she calmed down.

"Thank you" she finally spoke.

"Want to talk about it?"

"Nightmare" she said.

"I'll meet you in three days. Will you wait for me?"

"Yes"

"Ha Jin"

"Yes?"

"Thank you"

"Huh? What for?"

"For choosing me"

"Uh... ok..." she said, confused.

"Take care"

"Yes. And congratulations. Haneul oppa told me you're going to win two awards."

"Thank you. And he's oppa and I'm not?"

She laughed and I felt warm hearing her laugh.

"No. Oh no. You're not my oppa"

"What am I then?"

"You're Joongi. Just Joongi and most importantly, you're mine."
