Ronnie's POV:
Running. That's what we had always been best at. Running from our past, our problems, but most importantly; running from those bastard Zombies.
If you didn't already know about all of it, which you probably do, I'll do a quick explanation. About three years ago this scientist named Korse decided to try and reawaken the dead. He was successful for a while but the experiment turned horribly wrong and all of the people he had begun to bring back started getting cravings for human flesh. Every time they bite someone, the contagion spreads to that person.
No one from our past has survived, not that we know of at least. It's been hard for the two of us but we make it work. If you're wondering who I am talking about, it's my best friend Alice. She has been with me through so much and this stupid war or apocalypse that's happening isn't any different.
But we accidentally split up. We had been running trying to get away from some Zombie morons and we ended up in an old recording studio where we met this group of guys. They two different groups and they were working together trying to figure out what to do next when we barged in.
They took us to this little place and Alice and I had fallen asleep next thing we know a bunch of Zombies break in and we're all on the run again, going our different ways.
Austin, one of the guys, had lifted me and started running not even bothering to look back. All of his buddies were right behind us. I looked over his shoulder to see if Alice was still there but the last thing I saw was a black boot turning the corner.
He ran with me until we were outside where he gladly dropped me and I landed carefully on my feet. Not even bothering to straighten out I took off, still running. I could hear the bastards behind us, moaning and groaning, but I kept running. As fast as I possibly could. Austin, Alan, and all the other guys were running along side me and all of us were pushing our hardest. I was ahead of them by just a little and I saw a little alley way coming up.
The second I was close enough I turned and caught the guys by surprise but they followed suit and slid down the wall. The zombies ran past the alley and turned down Duke St. Not the smartest things after all the experimenting.
"That was way too sudden. How the hell did they get in there?!" Alan questioned, panting just as hard as the rest of us. He looked to Austin who just shrugged.
"I don't know. I thought we had barricaded all the doors, but I guess not."
"That was too sudden. They wouldn't have been able to smell us from all the way in there. So why did they keep trying?" I continued, just thinking out loud at this point. I looked around at all of the guys but they just shrugged.
"I don't know, but we can't figure it out from here. C'mon." "Where are we going?"
"Dr D's is about a day and a half walk from here but I saw a car a little bit back so I was going to go try it." Austin replied, standing up and moving carefully out of the alley way. I stood and followed him taking my gun out of the back of my pants and checking to see how many bullets I had. Full.
I had my gun at the ready as we slowly walked down the road, listening for any signs that there were more coming.
We stepped over broken pieces of cars and building, there were little fires all around the street and it looked like a scene out of a movie. But it wasn't. This was our reality. Our own personal hell.
The four guys and I continued walking back for quite a while in complete silence. I was about to ask how far back the car had been when I heard some shuffling coming from behind me.
I turned and saw a single straggler slowly shuffling towards us. I rolled my eyes and grabbed my silencer from my boot and clipped it to the barrel. I set up aim and pulled the trigger. The bullet soared through the air and hit him right in the forehead and he fell to the ground. I walked a little closer and shot twice more just for good measure.
When I was sure the thing was dead I knelt beside it and searched it's pockets for anything useful. I found a pen, a lighter, an almost full pack of smokes, and an ID card. I took all of it and stored it in my jacket and turned to go back to the guys. They were standing about six feet away just staring at me.
"What?" I questioned innocently. All of them looked completely shocked, well all of them accept Austin. Alan turned and ran right to me looking between me and the dead zombie behind me.
"How did you do that?! You were almost ten feet away and you shot it right in the forehead! How?!" I laughed a little and smacked his shoulder.
"Years of training my friend." Was the only reply I gave before be continued on.
We rounded a corner and the first thing we saw was a nice pick up truck. It had a lift kit and an amazing stereo system. I ran up to it and ran my fingers along the dirty black hood. I walked to the door and jiggled the handle. The door came open and I silently cheered to myself. Hopping in the front of the car I searched. The ignition was clean and I kicked my feet around underneath but nothing was there. I hopped out again and bent down the look under the seat and cheered out loud this time. I reached underneath and grabbed shiny ring of keys.
Straightening out again I lifted the keys in the air and showed the guys. They cheered as well and we all climbed in. I climbed in the drivers seat and was about to close the door when a hand grabbed the door. I looked up at Austin and gave him a weird look.
"What's your problem?" I asked him, the sass coming out loud and clear in the question. He looked at me like I was crazy and rolled his eyes.
"I'm driving. You don't know where you're going."
"Than you can tell me where to go, but I'm driving and that's that. If you don't like it than stay here and I'll get the others to show me the way." He looked behind me at the guys and they all just looked down. He looked back and me and I smiled goofily at him. He rolled his eyes and walked to the other side.
"Alan, Phil, you two are in the bed of the truck. You see anything following us, kill it. No hesitations." They nodded and hopped out of the truck, no questions asked. Austin slid in where Alan had been and I waited to hear the truck shift a little to let me know the guys were in before putting the keys in the ignition and starting it up.
