Never in my almost eighteen years did I ever put so much thought into an outfit.

"Dad." I called out as my Dad walked past my room

He stopped walking down the hall and leaned against my doorway.

"Yes?" He asked me

"I'm going over to Grier's for dinner and I'm meeting her family. I don't know what to wear." I expressed

My dad looked surprised, "You're meeting her family?"

I nodded, "Yeah?"

"That's a step. Tell me what their house is like." My dad grinned

I rolled my eyes, "It's too early for that."

"I'm just saying, that girl has one hell of an inheritance coming." He commented

I shrugged, "And? I'd still like her even if her family was broke."

My Dad walked in and sat on the edge of my bed, "So you really like this girl?"

"Yes, we're not dating." I reminded him

"Why not?" He proceeded

"She might not like me like that." I explained myself

My dad made a disapproving face, "A girl doesn't have just anyone around her family. She's gotta feel something, son."

"Maybe, but I'd rather not rush into things since the last time I did that things didn't work out too well." I spoke

"Sure maybe it didn't, but you didn't bring that other girl around us or even have her at the house. You have with this girl and I like her, your mom likes her, I don't see the problem here." My Dad said to me

"We can talk about this after I meet her parents." I said motioning him out

My dad got up, "Fine. Be kind, be your true self, don't fake to be someone you're not, offer to help with dishes."

"I'm not nervous about dinner with her mom, it's just her Dad." I added

My Dad was quiet for a moment.

"Yeah, I could see why, just be respectful and be Everett." My Dad ended before he walked out

"Thanks, Dad!" I exclaimed as I shut my door

I continued to get rummage through my closet until I found something to wear even though I didn't have to be at their house until five forty-five.

In the meantime, I cleaned up my room and caught up on some homework.

As I drove to her house, all that I prayed for was that everything went smoothly and I was well liked

I rang the doorbell at exactly five forty-three since my dad insisted I'd be somewhat early.

The door opened and there stood Holland.

"Hey, Everett." She smirked

"Hey, Holland. How's it going?" I asked her

She nodded, "It's going. You're in for a real treat tonight. We're having steak, potatoes, and asparagus. Oh, come in."

I followed Holland to the kitchen.

Her mom had asparagus in skillet, Grier was setting the table with her brothers in the dining room, and I didn't see her dad anywhere.

"The guest of honor is here." Holland announced

I grinned, "Hi."

Grier walked into the kitchen, "Hey, Ev."

"Hi, Everett." Her mom said walking up to me
