Chapter 5

"So that girl at the park is your best friend?" Desiree asks while skimming the mystery section of the bookstore.

"Yep, ever since ninth grade." I say somewhat proudly.

"Ohh, and when did you meet your hot boyfriend? she chuckles, she picks up a book with a bloody red question mark on the cover.

"Since the eighth grade." I smile and then hesitate. "but he's not my boyfriend." I frown down at the floor and then I skim over the romance section, ironically.

"Why not!" Dez cries. "You two were so cute together." she adds.

I sigh. "Yea, he's more interested in Tori."

"Wait, your best friend?" she pauses and then turns to me.

"Yea." I turn my back to her.

"Come on Nessy! She may be your bff but you've had a crush on him since like forever, and did I mention he's a total hotty.

"Maybe you're right."  I think hard about what Desiree said. I have liked him since forever and Tori doesn't really like him.

"It's getting kind of late Dez, do you need a ride home?" I say looking at the time on my phone.

"Sure, but my place is kind of a long drive from here."She hands the question mark book to the cashier, paying him.

"Well, where do you stay?" I ask curiously.

"Brookhaven." she grabs the bag of her books and follows me to my car. Brookhaven is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in our town.

"Wow, there are some really nice houses over there."

"Yeah, well my dad owns this chain of gas stations." she says like it's the simplest thing in the world.

"My mom owns a catering business downtown." I say shyly.

We head uptown into the more lavish part of town and the houses increase in size. I turn into Brookhaven and there is a huge iron gate blocking entrance into the neighborhood.

"The entrance number is nine-one-four-six-one." she points the the touch screen box on the side of my car.

I put in the specific number and the huge gate slowly opens. I turn into the neighborhood and the homes are so beautiful I'm almost in awe.

I parked on the side of the driveway of the really lavish house- I mean really lavish house. She got out and walked up the long driveway which took forever. I had a really long drive home so I decided to call Tori so I wouldn't be lonely.

"Tor-rayyy." I shouted.

"What's up my best beotchhh?" we laughed. She was always up for a conversation no matter what time it was.

"Where are you? You don't sound like you're at home." she said suspiciously. She was always good at telling if someone was lying.

"Leaving Brookhaven. Where are you?" I ask trying to avoid the question that I knew was coming.

"What in the hell are you doing in Brookhaven, that's some fancy shit." She sounded surprised, the only time we came to Brookhaven was to go to one of the soccer player's parties. (Most of them were rich)

"Yeah, well I had to drop someone off." I mentally slapped myself for mentioning that.

"Who?" she  was yelling.
