Chapter 7

When I woke up this morning, I knew this would be a strange day. I avoided Tori at all cost and hung out with my other really good friend, Katie. I had known Katie since the sixth grade and we basically knew everything about each other. We sat together at an empty lunch table and  I told her about the whole situation with the party and what happened.

"Have you heard about Tori and Chase?" she bit her lip with anger in her tone. She didn't like Tori for some reason, and she knew that I liked Chase so she automatically blamed Tori. I snapped back from where ever I was and looked at her lip, concerned because it was starting to lose color.

"Yea, I heard." I sighed tiredly. I looked around and Tori and Chase were with the baseball team. I hadn't noticed I was clutching my fist until Katie had warned me.

"Look Ness, I know she's your friend." she paused to look around for listeners. "But she's a total bitch and she always goes for what she wants. Right now she HAS what YOU want." she bit on her lip harder and I swear I thought the thing would explode.

I started to bite my nails, looking from Katie to Tori and Chase. "What do I need to do?" I took a long sip of my coke.

"He has practice this afternoon, go see him." she said putting air quotes around the word see. I shook my head in agreement.  I got up and straightened my hot-pink mini skirt and walked to art class.

After school I headed to the baseball field that was across the street from our school. They were practicing for an upcoming game this weekend. I sat on a bench next to all the girlfriends who had nothing to do today. After about forty-five minutes, they stopped to take a break.

"Chase!" I shouted to him from where I was sitting, trying my best to come out sounding nonchalant. I ended up sounding more like "Chase I love you and I need you.".

He walked up to me hesitatingly. He looked like a freaking god in his uniform. I rubbed my arm nervously, contemplating what I was going to say.

"Hey Vanessa." he threw his bat over his shoulder. I raised an eyebrow at him.

"I need to talk to you somewhere private." I laughed inside, remembering this is how our conversation had started the night at that party.

"Sure." he led us to the back of these empty bleachers. I looked into his eyes and he looked anxious or scared.

"Did you like the game?" he asked. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Listen Chase, I didn't come here to tell you about how awesome you are at baseball, or how fucking hot you are in your baseball uniform. I came to talk about us. What's going on with you and Tori?" I said assertively. He looked serious for a moment and then turned his head away from my eyes as if he were thinking.

He sighed. "She asked me on a date and it's not like I had an excuse to say no. No we're not dating though. I really like you Vanessa, but you're not ready to be with me and I understand that." He stepped closer like he was reaching out to hug me, I grabbed on to his neck and pressed my lips to his softly and jumped onto him, wrapping my legs around his waist. He grabbed my butt and pulled me closer to him, kissing me intensely but soft and the same time. I let his tongue slip into my mouth and it explored it's way around.

It was so confusing and so wrong but so damn right at the same time. I wanted to thank Katie for telling me to come here. The coach blew his whistle which meant all the players were due back on the field but Chase just stayed here. He stopped kissing me, making me feel like I had crashed suddenly from a sugar high.

"I gotta go, but I'll call you tonight okay?" he lifted me up and then put me down like I was a precious doll that was worth millions.

"Okay." I ran up to him and kissed him once more and then watched him run back onto the field in a daze.
