Screw the one month rule

Kaito put his hands on his hips and huffed loudly. 

Shuichi reached downwards and intertwined his fingers in Kokichi's. Kokichi couldn't help but smile, everything was going right so far.. well, apart from Kaito finding out, everything had worked out absolutely perfectly. 

Kaito suddenly gasped, like he had had an idea. 

Kokichi couldn't restrain himself from making a joke. "Oh Kaito! Did you have an idea or something?" Kokichi started off his joke. Shuichi turned to him and shook his head, attempting to make him stop whatever he was about to say. Kokichi simply smirked and Shuichi realised that he was going to say the joke anyway. "I didn't think miracles were possible!" 

Shuichi winced as he saw Kaito's expression change from a reasonably happy one to a frustrated or angry one. Kaito clenched his fist but he took some deep breaths to calm himself down. "If he wasn't your.. boyfriend? Then I'd punch him." 

Shuichi let out a nervous laugh. "I'm sure he was joking.." Shuichi turned to face Kokichi, pleading that he wasn't going to mess with Kaito any more. Kokichi shrugged, "Of course it was a joke Kaito! I wouldn't dare insult my boyfriend's best friend now would I?" 

Kaito crossed his arms. "No, I guess not." 

Kokichi smirked back at him. 

"Right so, the idea I had earlier.." Kaito started. Shuichi could tell that Kokichi opened his mouth to say something but Shuichi desperately shook his head in a sort of a 'Abort mission' way to try and stop him. Kokichi rolled his eyes, slightly annoyed that Shuichi had stopped him, and Kaito continued, "Am I the first one to know?" 

Kokichi turned to Shuichi as asked him innocently. "Are you going to answer that?" 

Shuichi looked at Kokichi and nodded. He then turned his attention to Kaito, "Well Uhh.. not really?"

Kaito was puzzled, "What do you mean, 'not really?' I think it's a yes or no answer.."

Shuichi chuckled nervously, "Well, ahha.. funny story really.." 

Kaito's face fell, "So, the answer is no?"

"Well I.. yeah, the answer is no." Shuichi gave in, he knew that there was no way that he could talk his way out of this one. Kaito looked somewhat betrayed as he shifted awkwardly in his stance. "Why didn't you tell me first? I'm your best friend, unless there's someone else."

Kokichi attempted to hold back his laughter. It was like Kaito was accusing Shuichi of cheating on him as a best friend.. 

"Kaito, seriously. The other person only found out because they saw us together an--" Shuichi replied, attempting to explain to Kaito what was really going on. Kaito didn't let Shuichi finish his explanation, "No, no, it's totally okay." Kaito spoke sarcastically, "Who are they? Who's your new best friend?! Who did you replace me with?" 

Shuichi suddenly became extremely awkward. 

Kokichi looked at the situation and an idea popped into his head. "Annd I thought I was the one who was dating Shuichi!" 

Kaito turned to face him, slightly confused. "What the hell do you mean?"

A smirk appeared on Kokichi's face which Shuichi knew was a bad sign. "I mean, you're acting like you're his boyfriend and that he's cheating on you. Anything you want to tell us Kaito?"

It took a moment for Kaito to process what Kokichi was suggesting. After a few seconds, he realised. "WHAT? No! I'm straight! I'm dating Maki!"

"Sure, sure you are." 

Kaito started to panic. Kokichi was smug that his plan had worked so well. "I'm just protective over my sidekick! I'm not in love with him or anything!"

"You better not be Kaito." Kokichi exclaimed without thinking, "Because I'm the only one who's allowed to be in love with him!" Kokichi's eyes widened as soon as he realised what he had just said. Shuichi stared at him, a light blush dusting his cheeks.

"For the last time, I'm dating Maki and I'm not in love with Shuichi like you are, he's just my sidekick." Kaito countered, casually staing the fact that Kokichi had just said that he loved Shuichi as he didn't really realise how big a deal it was. 

Shuichi reached out and grabbed Kokichi's arm, causing him to look at him. Shuichi looked at Kaito, "We've got class now Kaito, sorry but we have to go." He signalled to their classroom building, "Talk to you later."  

Kaito nodded, "Talk later bro." 

Shuichi intertwined his fingers in Kokichi's then walked away from Kaito, towards the tall, brick building. Neither of them knew what to say to one another so they kept walking in awkward, slightly painful silence. 

The two of them stopped outside the room and Kokichi peered in, seeing half of their class already sitting in their seats. Shuichi took a deep breath then turned to face his boyfriend, "Earlier, when you said you loved me.."

"Don't, it's fine." Kokichi smiled back at him, lying. 

Shuichi took a deep breath, "I know that it isn't fine, that you're lying but.. I just want to to know that made me really happy." He temporarily paused, "But.."

Kokichi knew that there was a 'but' coming. He had been waiting for it. 

"I already said that it's fine." Kokichi interrupted him again. He really didn't want to hear the last part of the sentence. He let out a small chuckle. " Hahah, let's get inside huh? Don't want to be late on your first day or anything!"

Kokichi opened the door and stepped inside, leaving Shuichi in the hallway feeling guilty. 

He took a deep breath and followed Kokichi into the classroom.
