Chapter Six: The Meeting

Greenhorn opened the door and walked down the hallway behind the door. Volde led the way down the hallway followed by Scarlet and Tempest, still hand in hand. As the three of them reached the end of the hallway it opened into a large cathedral area. In the front of the room were seven large chairs. Within the room were desks and benches filled with people. They could see Greenhorn making his way over to a desk on the right hand side of the audience.

Before Greenhorn could sit down, Volde strode forward into the area between the audience of desks and the seven tall chairs. Scarlet and Tempest sheepishly followed him as they had been told by Greenhorn. The three of them stopped and felt the penetrating stares of the entire Council. Scarlet looked back where Greenhorn had walked to and he had taken his seat. She had been waiting for him to stand and talk but his voice never came.

“This emergency Council meeting is now in session. We will now take roll call.” The man sitting in the middle of the seven chairs stood and spoke with a booming voice over the audience floor. He began to read names off of a list he had taken from his small side desk. They did not recognize any of the names except for Elder Greenhorn. After several minutes and fifty names later, all of which included the seven chairs in front, the roll call was finished.

“I now call upon Elder Greenhorn, the member of which called this meeting in the dead of night, to address the Council.” Greenhorn immediately stood as the man had finished announcing his name.

“Thank you very much, Infernal Flamestrike, and thank you all for being able to arrive as quickly as you all have. As many of you are well aware, the evil that has moved swiftly through the training villages struck yesterday which marks the third village destroyed in only a week. With no resistance and nothing being able to stop this evil from moving forward we expect that the fourth and fifth villages will be destroyed within the following week.”

“The three people I have brought before you today are from our eastern village. To be blunt with the Council I have yet to provide any information to these three. The two male’s names are Tempest and Volde. The female’s name is Scarlet.” At the mention of Scarlet’s name, the chairs in the audience began to shuffle and it was clear that several of the members sat up in their chairs.

“I will now explain the events of tonight. I was tasked with bringing these three here as soon as I could. We decided to leave the village by my Floating Island technique. I had planned to escape the village unnoticed and arrive here in Capitol before sunset. We had to travel several hours after the sun had set and we were attacked by four shade-touched beings. All were dispatched and we only suffered minor damages.”

“It may be possible that the evil attacking the villages knows that Scarlet and her companions have been moved. The four minions may have simply been scouts patrolling around Capitol. If so, the information may not have been relayed back.” Greenhorn paused for a moment and one of the audience members stood.

“Greenhorn, a question?” Greenhorn acknowledged the female that was now standing across the room. “You were ordered to move the girl and her companions but you were also tasked with keeping any information about the situation away from the three of them. Would you allow me to examine the three?” Greenhorn again nodded and took his seat. The woman stepped around her desk and moved to the area where Scarlet, Tempest, and Volde stood. As she approached she asked a question while she moved.

“Scarlet, could you please use some of your Elementalist skills for the audience please?” Scarlet was confused at such a simple command but as she mulled it over maybe she was being tested. Did they think she was not powerful?
