Chapter Eighteen: A Vital Mission
Scarlet woke up to the sound of yelling in the city. She jumped out of bed and looked out the window. Fortunately, the yelling was just of commanders issuing orders to their battalions and no fighting had started. Scarlet took off her clothes, folded them up, and ignited her body. Her body was now a clear orange fire instead of her normal dark red.
“I now hand over all of my strength, master. I am yours.” Xaphana chuckled in her head. Scarlet couldn’t help but smile. “However, you cannot use my form until we deceive the Netherlord. He will be expecting you in clothes.” Scarlet understood and extinguished the flames. She walked over to the dresser and no clothes were inside. She ignited herself for cover and walked to her old room with the hole blown in the wall. She checked the dresser and the fire council member robe was still inside. She dressed in that and walked down the stairs.
“Good luck, Ms. Scarlet.” Tom said with a smile on his face.
“Thank you, Tom. I look forward to seeing you after all this is over.”
“I would like that very much, Ms. Scarlet.” Scarlet bowed lowly to Tom. Tom returned the bow and she noticed that he was crying as she left the inn. She walked the empty streets of Capitol. Most of the Elementalists were already stationed on top of the platforms and were being drilled and making final preparations before the battle. She finally found a gap in the platforms and saw that it was already well past high sun.
“Scarlet, the Nether portal needs to be destroyed or very strong demons will most likely increase the mortality rate of this battle.” Xaphana said as Scarlet walked through the city. Scarlet had nearly forgotten about the portal. The Netherlord had not brought up the portal in his meeting so she wondered if he would even use it in the battle. Nonetheless, Xaphana was correct. She rushed toward where Tempest was supposed to be stationed. The front of the city was crowded with Shenguard warriors clad in their metal armor. She made her way to the front of the many battalions that lined the area around the front gate. There she found Militant Fortisgladius, Tempest, and several other Elders discussing battalion control.
“Excuse me, commanders.” Scarlet spoke as she strode forward interrupting one of the Elders. The entire group stood tall and saluted Scarlet, including Tempest. She bowed lowly to them in respect. They fell at ease and Tempest was the first to speak.
“You’re wearing clothes today. I expected you to be naked.” Tempest joked harmlessly.
“Xaphana made a plan with the Netherlord last night. We plan to deceive him into thinking that she has taken over my body. It is supposed to be a shock to the High Council once they see my flame form.” She explained. Tempest nodded understanding the plan. Scarlet turned to the Militant.
“Sir, may I borrow Elder Temporsword? I need him to help me a mission quite vital to the success of the battle today.” Tempest looked at her oddly. The Militant leader took no time to answer at all.
“Scarlet, I trust that you would not take my Elder away for anything less than vital importance. You may have him.” The Militant beckoned Tempest to leave and the two of them walked off.
“What is this vital mission all about?” Tempest asked.
“Xaphana, can you lead me to the portal?”
