Chapter Nineteen: The Defense of Capitol
The three of them left the palace and stood in the courtyard outside.
“This is where it will end.” Scarlet said examining her battlefield. Volde and Tempest looked around as well. “Well, we get to defend Capitol now. We dreamed of this for so long and now here we are.”
“I would rather be defending against the Red Hand then the most powerful Elementalist and his band of super demons from the Nether.” They all agreed with the sentiment that Tempest arose.
“Unfortunately, with how powerful this guy is we could be dead by the end of the night.” Volde added. They stood together in silence. They all watched as the sun came into that part of the sky that created the weird setting of twilight. They all grouped up and hugged each other. Their friendship lasted for years and now in the light of this final battle they realized the reality of the situation. Tears streamed down their faces as they did not want to lose each other.
“You guys need to get to your positions.” Scarlet said separating from the two of them. “You are more prone to death if you aren’t with your battalions and stuck alone. Now, get out of here.” Scarlet hardly was able to say that without breaking down. Tempest stood straight and tall. He saluted Volde and Scarlet. They bowed low to him and he walked off. Volde bowed to Scarlet and then walked off himself.
Scarlet was now alone. Separated from her friends, her mentors, her family, her sister. The only person she had was the demon who resided in her mind and soul. She had changed from the young girl she thought she had been a week ago. Her priorities had changed so much. She wanted to just get here
The orange of twilight sunk in over the city and she began to hear shouting from sections of the city. She had started to make her way over to that section when she heard shouts from the platforms above as well. It had begun. The Netherlord’s army was here. She had no more time to train, no more time to prepare, now was the time to defend this city with her life.
She ran toward the section where the fire Elementalists were told to be positioned. She noticed that the beasts that she had fought on her arrival were popping up in shadows throughout the city. However, none of them attacked her. One of the minions stopped in her tracks and the two of them stared at each other for a moment and the minion simply slinked away.
“The Netherlord believes that I am you. He will not openly attack you unless you are in the presence of one of the seven. That way you can defend yourself and show the seven that you are fighting the good fight.” Xaphana spoke. Scarlet understood and eventually arrived on top of the wall where the fire Elementalists were currently fighting off flying demons and the shadow minions. Scarlet moved down the wall to find the Infernal. The Infernal was spectacular in his techniques. He was currently in combat with several larger demons but Scarlet did not recognize them as any of the demons around the table in her dream.
The Infernal summoned a whip of flame and lashed out at the three large beasts and black blood flowed out of the wound on their chest. He continued to drive them back with the whip until their bodies were nothing but blood streaming from hundreds of wounds. The three minions were stumbling around and eventually collapsed in a heap.
While Scarlet was watching the Infernal, she dispatched several of the shadow minions with a small pointed shot of fire. Once the Infernal had beaten the three large demons he spun around and nearly ran into Scarlet.
