Chapter Thirteen: Mind Over Matter

She woke up to Tempest standing at the window beside the bed. She wasn’t sure how aware whatever was in her dream was while she was awake so she wanted to be very careful about what she said to anyone. It seemed that she did not hear her thoughts in the dream so she felt she was safe up there.

“Morning, Temp.” Scarlet rolled over on her side and smiled. Tempest turned around and smiled back.

“Morning, babe.” Scarlet was overjoyed that he still accepted her and jumped up out of bed to hug him. He laughed and she joined in. “I’m happy to see you are…”

                “Still me?”

“Yeah, still you is the best way to put it I guess.” Scarlet looked over and saw a pile of fresh clothes on the table. She looked back at Tempest and saw that he already had new clothes on.

“Meet me downstairs. I am going to hop in the shower quick. See if you can’t find Volde somewhere.” Tempest nodded and left the room. She grabbed the clothes and walked into the bathroom. She looked at herself in the mirror. She still looked the same but she knew that somewhere inside her was a flaming spirit of evil. The spirit inside her was told that an attack on Capitol would happen in one week. She decided not to bring anything up, aloud anyway, for at least another day or two. She was called resilient by the spirit inside her. She had to beat it or all was lost.

She took off the robe given to her by the council and looked at her self again. Still nothing looked any different. She stepped into the shower. Thoughts flooded her mind as she cleaned herself up. A week ago she was worrying about Trials before graduation, a few days ago she was tasked to destroy an evil dooming the Elementalists, and now she had two enemies and one was herself.

She dressed in the new clothes and stashed the old council robe in one of the clothes drawers they had in the room. She walked downstairs and found Tempest and Volde sitting alone at a table. Scarlet signaled the deskman to bring her the usual as she made her way through the crowd to the table.

She took her seat as the two of them were already in a conversation. The two of them were talking about the day plans. The two of them were apparently ordered to continue their training with the two High Council members that they had been training with already.

“What about you, Scarlet? Are you going back with the Infernal to train some more too?” Volde asked realizing that Scarlet had yet to say anything. Scarlet thought back for a moment. The Infernal had not said anything about what she was to do today.

“I don’t know.” She said simply as she took another drink. They had a stunned silence.

“What do you mean? Did the Infernal not tell you where to meet him today?” Scarlet simply shook her head and then continued to drink.

“That’s odd. Well, Tempest and I need to get off to our stuff. I hope you find the Infernal today because I am pretty sure he will be waiting for you wherever he is.” The both of them had finished their drinks and headed out of the inn. She sat there alone sipping on her juice. The dream continued to replay in her head. She made a deal with the onyx skinned man, the Netherlord. She no longer had any say in her dreams. Whatever was unleashed when the seal was broken must have been what was controlling her in the dreams before-hand. It was free now and she had little to no control over what she was saying to the Netherlord.
