Chapter 7 - Personal Time and The Outing

"Sorry, Professor Lupin," Harry said sheepishly, refusing to meet the older man's eyes. "It's alright, just be a little more cautious next time, ok?" the older werewolf asked. Harry nodded, glancing up into the caramel eyes of the man.

Professor Lupin then seemed to suddenly notice that he was still holding Harry's waist, and let go rather quickly. It took all of Harry's willpower to not whimper at the loss of contact. Why does he affect me this way? Harry asked himself.

Professor Lupin was rubbing the back of his neck and looking around awkwardly. "Is everything ok, professor?" Harry asked, masking his confusion at his feelings. Professor Lupin smiled and nodded. "Yeah. I was just wondering if you had any more classes today." Harry shook his head. "I only had Transfiguration today." he replied.

"Would you like to come help me?" the professor asked. "I have some tests that need grading, and there's no way I'm going to get them all done by tonight if I'm working alone." Harry jumped at the opportunity. "Of course! I'd love to!" he said, then realized that he sounded a little too eager for going and grading papers, but it was already too late to fix it.

"I'm glad!" Lupin smiled. He turned and walked away, waving Harry to walk beside him. "So, how was Transfiguration?" the professor asked. Harry grinned. "It was really fun. I'm pretty sure I was the first person to get the spell right." Professor Lupin smiled. "That's great! What were you all working on?"

"We were working on the 'Sic Mutarei' spell." Harry replied. The older werewolf nodded. "That's the spell that is used to transform inanimate objects into magical creatures, right?" he asked. Harry nodded. "What did you make?" the professor asked. Harry grinned and pulled Mekhi off his shoulder and placed him on Professor Lupin's shoulder.

The orphis rose up and around to look at the new man. Professor Lupin's face lit up with delight. "An orphis! Great job!" he said. Turning to Harry, he asked, "What's his name?" Harry smiled. "His name is Mekhi," he said, "and she's Akilah," he finished, pointing to the orphis curled up on his left shoulder. "Wow, two orphi with the same person. That's rare. How did you gain their trust?"

Harry shrugged, careful not to disturb Akilah. "Akilah just seemed to click with me, aside from the fact that I remind her of a potions mistress she had years ago. Mekhi seems indebted to me because I'm the one who created him." Lupin nodded. "Makes sense."

They arrived at the professor's door. Lupin reached over and opened the door, waving for the younger werewolf to go in first. Harry walked past the man, blushing at their proximity. This probably was not a good idea, he thought, attempting to push his blush down and failing spectacularly.

"Now that we are alone, please honor your promise." Lupin said. Harry's blush rose further, if that was possible, but he said, "Of course, Remus. What kind of alpha would I be if I couldn't hold up to the simplest of things?"

Lupin chuckled, shook his head, and handed Harry a large stack of papers. "The one on top is the answer key. Please use red ink to correct and write the correct answer to the side of any incorrect answers." Harry nodded and plopped himself down in one of the front row desks.

The scratching of the quills filled the room. After a while, the hairs on the back of Harry's neck stood up, making him look up quickly. His eyes met Lupin's. OK, that's a little weird... he thought. "Are you doing ok?" Professor Lupin asked, breaking Harry out of his thoughts.
