Three days passed peacefully. I let out a sigh as I sat in the room with Eryn.
"This is all too peaceful." I rose to my feet. I walked over to the window and looked out at the land as it passed by. "Don't get me wrong I am very grateful for the peace. I would very much like to reach Repron with everyone on this train still alive. It just that it feels like this is the calm before the storm."
"I agree," Eryn said as she was sprawled out on the bench. "You know Drak and Kevdak are searching for anyone channeling as am I so just relax a bit. It won't do you any good to stress yourself out."
"I know," I said sighing. "I'm going to go get some air. I'll be back in a bit." Eryn nodded and rolled over to get some sleep. I thought about bring Diark but thought against it.
If anyone attacked me on the train, Zammorak was all I would need. I made my way through the passenger car towards the door that led to the six cargo trains at the rear and as I stepped outside the wind blew past me. It was a cool relief. I spotted a ladder leading to the top of the car and decided to head up top. I was buffeted by a blast of wind but held onto the rungs of ladder tightly. I braced myself against the wind and fought my way towards the middle of the car.
I held myself in place then stared at the plains stretching out to the horizon on either side. There were dozens of farms over the few hours I sat there. I thought of how peaceful their lives were. I was about to head back inside when I felt something substantial to the south. I instinctively grabbed Zammorak from my thigh just before a massive spike made of bone shot up from the ground through one of the passenger cars near the front of the train. I was thrown forward as the car came to a sudden stop as it crashed into the car ahead of it. I hit the roof of the car, sliding forward and used the momentum to get back on my feet. I brought Zammorak up cursing as dozens of spikes shot out of from the first car. Spikes shot down from the spikes into the passenger cars. I could hear screams as the spikes. I sensed another burst of Ahanko before a series of fireballs rained down throwing up debris. I brought my arms up to block some of the debris as it passed by and I could feel the heat as a fireball passed. I glanced back and watched as the fireball slammed into one of the cargo cars. A large cloud of smoke rose up into the sky just seconds before a shockwave threw me off the train.
I hit the ground hard, rolling a few feet before recovering. I got to my feet and saw people rushing from the train cars, screaming. Some had dozens of cuts and were covered in blood. They were holding limbs which looked broken. I spotted Kevdak rushing from one of the cars of the train with two people on his shoulders. The Tzehw carried the two people far away from the train before laying them on the ground.
"Trez are you okay?" Kevdak asked as he reached for the hammer on his back. I nodded as I looked passed the Tzehw I let out a curse. "What?" Kevdak asked turning around to see a couple dozen Kupmehs rushing forward.
The passengers saw the beasts and let out a scream. They started to flee, but the Tzehw grabbed his hammer and gave a laugh before rushing to meet the Kupmehs. I reversed my grip on then followed after Kevdak. I ducked under the curved blade of a Kupmeh sword then swung Zammorak slicing the creature's throat. Blood sprayed into the air as I spun around evading a crude axe. Before the beast could get off another attack, I leaped up driving the dagger into its neck. I heard a loud thud and turned to see Kevdak's hammer lying atop what used to be a Kupmeh head. The Tzehw flashed a smile then started off to find another beast to kill. When the last of the Kupmehs fell I wiped the blood off the dagger before moving on.
I headed back to the car that I shared with Eryn and saw her dancing around a group of Kupmehs. Her short swords moved quickly to block strikes and sever limbs.
An Amedta rushed at her from behind, holding its greatsword like a spear. I tossed Zammorak catching the beast in the chest. It stumbled for a bit but continued forward as if it did not have a dagger in its chest. I broke forward into a sprint. The beast was about to strike when I leaped forward driving a knee into the pommel of Zammorak. The blade sank deeper into its chest. The Amedta tried to catch me with a right hook, but I kicked off into a back flip. The Amedta stumbled backward and swung its greatsword wildly, but there was not enough strength left. I rushed in, withdrew Zammorak then stabbed the Amedta a few more times. Blood flowed from its mouth as it swung at me one more time before falling back.
