Four days later I felt the Ahanko directly below us which was confusing. I told Sky who shook his head in disbelief. The two of us looked for any signs of a way beneath the surface. Suddenly all the Merthekyrs let out a little howl before leaping into the air. We hit the sand as if it was water. I felt the one I was on starting to tense and tried to communicate no to the beast, but I failed.
Sky and I both let out a curse as our beasts leaped high into the air. I wrapped my arms around the Merthekyr's neck and pressed myself against its body as the surface started to rise up fast. I took a deep breath just before the beast hit the sand.
I held my breath as the Merthekyr continued to head deeper down into the sand. My lungs started to burn from the lack of oxygen. I feared that the beasts had led me to my death when suddenly it felt my stomach was up in my throat, the Merthekyr and I were plummeting from the top of a massive cavern.
I heard Sky screaming and turned to see that he was barely hanging onto the Merthekyr's neck. The beast spun in the air and my eyes widened in shock as I truly saw how high we were in the air. It was like jumping from the top of the tower in Repron.
I looked towards the surface and saw a majority of the Merthekyrs had already landed. I started to close my eyes and wait for us to hit the surface when the beast spun around again bringing forth a massive ziggurat, the same one from my vision. I braced myself for impact, but the Merthekyr landed like a cat. Sky landed shortly after and let out a great laugh as he leaped off the beast. The moment his feet touched the ground he started to kiss it.
"Oh thank the gods," Sky said rising. "I truly thought that I was going to die."
"You know Sky for being a werewolf you do act like a girl sometime."
"Well, I am sorry I do not like heights. I would rather go up against an army than be high up in the sky like that. I thought that my stomach was going to come out of my throat."
I responded with a laugh as Sky climbed onto the Merthekyr. Once everything was set I dug my heel into the beast's side, and we set off towards the ziggurat. The Merthekyrs sprinted towards the structure following a river of lava which looked to be flowing away from the ziggurat. It took a few hours, but we arrived to see a large army of Amedtas standing at the base of the stairs. One of the Amedtas turned around and let out a howl just before one of the larger Merthekyr ripped it in two.
The other Merthekyr rushed in using their teeth and claws to rip the Amedtas apart. I drew Fehtpmyta then leaped from the back of the Merthekyr, breaking into a run the moment my feet touched the ground. Sky was close behind with a smile on his face as he cracked his knuckles. The two of us danced our way through the Amedtas wounding many, leaving them for the Merthekyr to finish.
Once we reached the bottom of the stairs a trio of Amedtas rushed forward only to be reduced to ash by a pillar of fire that shot from a Merthekyr's mouth. I looked up at the beast which nodded its head before turning to another group of Amedtas.
Sky and I rushed to the top of the stairs where we saw that the door had been destroyed. A hole with the edges white hot, dripping with molten rock, resided where the door used to stand. A path of destruction led down the hall. I looked to Sky who simply shrugged. We made our way through the halls and came across large groups of Amedtas that were trying to set up ambush points. We were able to make it through each group with relative ease.
After a few hours and a dozen floors, we entered a room similar to the one that kept the Aura Orb and residing on the pedestal was the Arot Orb giving off a fire red light. It looked like there was liquid fire flowing inside of the Orb like water. My eyes moved from the Orb then to the two men standing on each side of the Orb. One was Midreah. The other was Qureak.
