Chapter Twenty Seven

Naruto POV

Shiro didn't even hide his grin as he watched us begin to eat our meal. Soon he forgot about us and focus on feeding Gaara, teasing him with the food he was going to feed him. It still amazed me how Gaara could put up with Shiro.

"Naruto say ahh." I turned around to see Shika holding out his chopsticks towards me. I complied feeling a slight blush on my cheeks.

Lately I had been letting my guard down around Shika and it had been bugging me but now I was beginning to have a dangerous thought. If Danzo found out my weakness he would kill him in front of me and then extract the Kyuubi. My death was irrelevant but Shika's - that was a different case.

We ate and left to go to our rooms for about half an hour until Shika and I decided to go out to the onisen that was connected to our room. Both of us put swimming shorts on to be comfortable and climbed in.

"Hey Naruto, Shiro may be irritating but he has made me come to a realization." I looked out to see Shika blushing, I knew where he was going because I felt the same way so I put my fingers to his lips to stop him from saying another word.

"Same here but Shika there is something you should know about me." I smiled sadly. "You know I am the Kyuubi's host but Danzo found out you see. I have no choice but to go along with his suicide missions. I can't say no nor can the Hokage know. If he knows I have feelings for you he'll kill you and then use my weakness to extract the Kyuubi. I am the reason he killed the Uchia for their sharingan eyes to control the Kyuubi."

His eyes widened as tears began to cascade down his cheeks. He knew that I am merely a caged animal, that I can never be free. That once day I'll be brutally killed and put down by the master I serve as a dog.

"We'll fix this I swear because I can't show my entire intelligence without you. This situation is just troublesome and complicated but I need my even more troublesome blonde by my side so I am just going to have to expend a bit of effort. What I am asking Naruto is will you go out with me?" Shika stared me in the eyes determination and sincerity etched on his face.

A warm feeling filled my entire being. The most pure and extremely strong emotion I have ever felt drowned me. My heart hammered and blood pumped through my ears. I felt a strange moisture run down my cheeks. I looked in the water to my see my reflection was tomato red and that tears had began to stream down my face.

"Why? But I don't feel pain?"

The long awaited chapter is here. The last scene took me several rewrites and was published two days later than planned but I am quite proud of it.

Expect more excitement from now on, if it goes to plan it'll be a real tear jerker. Prepare yourself for the roller coaster I have planned.
