Thirty three

Shika POV
I opened my eyes to a blinding white light.

"I'm dead then? What a drag." I sighed. I heard a chuckle, I looked up to see Asuma Sensei, my team, Gaara and Shiro. "Not so dead then."

They chuckled. I sat up grunting slightly as pain rippled through me. There was something on my legs. I looked down to see a sleeping Naru. Cute. I blushed slightly looking away.

"He's not left your side for four days. He was in hospital himself for two before that, the kyuubi having sped up his healing time. This is the first time he has slept in two days." Shiro smiled.

"When you are discharged we can go for barbecue, Naruto too." Choji smiled. I chuckled slightly before nodding.

"Barbecue again Choji? This time don't eat everything Shikamaru and Naruto will need the energy." I blinked looked at Ino. She made a comment without Sasuke's name in it? "Of course we should invite Sasuke too."

There's it was. That troublesome name. No doubt the power crazed nut job would be after the kyuubi next to try and 'take revenge'. God he hates that Itachi killed the Uchias so he's going to kills the only known other surviving Uchia. Because that make sense. Ugh another drag.

I looked down at the sleeping Naruto, who had now stirred slightly. I stroked his soft hair, smiling. The trouble was worth it in the end. Suddenly I remembered everyone else was hear and quickly retracted my hand, my face turning crimson.

"Let's leave them alone now guys." Asuma Sensei winked at me as he shuffled both Ino and Choji out of my room shutting the door behind him.

"Thanks for helping me you two. Without you I couldn't save him." I smiled at them.

Shiro shook his head, a soft smile appearing on his face, "No, thank you Shikamaru for saving my brother and Gaara' future brother-in-law." His grin appeared, only winding slightly as a red faced Gaara stamped on his foot. "Here's a present from me."

He threw me a small box which I caught. My face heated up as I read the brand name on the box. Gaara read it out too. "Durex co..." He voice drifted away as he glared at Shiro. He grabbed his ear and twisted it. "What did I say about those sort of jokes?"

Shiro grimaced in pain. "Let go I'll apologise." Gaara complied satisfied, "Sorry I forgot a box for later." He winked at Gaara as he turned explosive red in anger and embarrassment. With that they both sprinted out of the room, Gaara calling for Shiro's blood.

I shook my head at Shiro's antics. Life was never boring with him round at least. I put the box in the bedside table shaking my head.

"Shika!" A happy voice blessed my ears. I looked to see Naruto now awake, beaming at me. I smiled back only to see his grin falter slightly. He still blamed himself.

"Shika, I'm sorry this all my fault. I-I am just a burden to you and I'd understand if you would want to break up with a monster like me." Tears began to cascade down him cheeks. I grabbed him shirt with my good arm and pulled him towards me our lips meeting.

"No way are you leaving me. I love you and I am not letting you go - ever. Most of my injuries were from the root ninja. The rest from the kyuubi not you. The kyuubi isn't you and you are not the kyuubi. You are Naaruto Uzumaki." I grinned.

Naruto's tears slowly ended, turning into a small smile. It may take a while to show Naruto that he didn't hurt me but it was worth it. After all, I still wanted to show him happiness.

Once there was a boy called Naruto who was falling both mentally and physically. He was broken by the very people he was tasked to protect. Under his mask he called out desperately for help for someone to save him but would anyone hear his calls?

Now I have heard them and I will save him like he has saved many others. His call has been heard and he'll never be alone again.

Thanks for all your support. This is the official end but there will be a bonus chapter maybe two if you want them. This was just the perfect end without it dragging too long. I was going to kill Shika and make Naruto move on and make the most of his life but I preferred this ending. Another reason why these last few chapters took so long.
