IT WAS A Friday night when the gang gathered together at Matthew's place. They found it an unspoken custom that started in their early ages and seemed it wasn't coming to an end. However, that particular week Matthew found their gathering much needed. He tried to reason with himself that it wasn't because of what had happened two days prior, but it definitely was.
Arianna was really all that he could think about.
"I can't believe she actually gave you her number."
Matthew rolled his eyes at Jax's smart remark but said nothing, knowing not to take anything that flew out of his mouth to heart. But in all honesty, Matthew couldn't quite believe his feat either. It was just this once that he got lucky, and he was afraid that their next encounter may not be so kind to him.
"It came as a shock to me too." Rafael chimed in.
Now Matthew knew whatever Jax said was pure and utter horse crap. But the fact that Rafael - the wisest one among them all - actually agreed with the idiot caused a lump to settle deep in his stomach.
"Guys, come on." He chuckled but it came out strained. "You guys aren't that surprised... right?"
The guys immediately stopped rummaging through the pizza boxes, glancing at each other briefly before digging back in, each muttering a disheartening form of 'yes'.
Matthew felt himself deflate like a hot air balloon.
"Seriously?"
"Sorry, Matt, but we all know how you are with women." Tommy shrugged as he dumped his fourth slice of pizza on his plate.
"Yeah, I mean don't you remember Jessica?" Jax questioned with an arched brow, for the first time that night sounding genuine. "She was cheating on her boyfriend of three years with you. We all saw that girl... trust me, she's gotta have people chasing after her."
It was futile for Matthew to try and deny anything. He had screwed up in previous relationships far too much for someone his age. And despite only encountering Arianna once, he didn't quite understand why, but he wanted this one to work out.
"Was I stupid to ask her out?" He feebly asked as they all made their way to the living room.
"Yeah,"
"No, he wasn't." Rafael shoved Jax out of the way as he sat down next to Matthew. "We all saw what Jessica did to you... but I don't think Arianna is like that."
"How do you know that. I mean, for all I know... you guys could be right. I haven't been in a relationship in two years. I... I'm no love expert." Matthew cried out as he flung his arms in the air. "Oh my god, she's gonna break up with me isn't she?"
Tommy shook his head in disappointment, muttering, "You haven't even been on one date." before taking a bite of his pizza.
