NEARLY A WEEK later had flown by, and Matthew still hadn't come to terms with his idiocy.

The night replayed in his mind like a broken record, no sign of stopping in sight. The bitter memories left him tossing and turning at night and crying every time he checked his bank account, praying that the amount of money he paid for the meals and damages were just a nightmare.

His prayers were yet to be answered.

"I see your five, and I'll raise you two."

"Only two?" Tommy questioned, calling Matthew back to the poker game at hand. "You afraid to go any higher?"

"Food takes first place in my life," Jax said in defiance. "I need to make sure I have enough money to buy food."

"Remember, gentlemen, we have a twenty dollar limit," Advised Rafael with a throaty chuckle.

The game carried on for a few more minutes before Matthew's friends noticed his odd behavior.

"You okay, Matt?" Rafael questioned as he threw chips into the middle of the table.

Jax waved a dismissive hand. "He's just upset because of his date."

"You would be too if you spilled food all over her and then was escorted out of the restaurant!" Matthew cried out.

"That's the difference between us two, Matt. I'd never do something like that."

"Well, it's only been a week." Tommy shrugged as he reached for the bowl of pretzels. "Maybe there can still be something to salvage."

Thinking back to that unfortunate night, he recalled the hurried manner in which she left his car leaving him to rush after her.

"I'll... call you." Was her staggered reply before she had shuffled into her apartment, shutting the door behind her.
