WHEN IT CAME to the female species, sure, Matthew wasn't the best.

He wasn't the worst, but certainly not the best at the game of flirting - even relationships in general. It wasn't that he had a problem flirting with women, but he just didn't know how. And of course, his best friends teased him relentlessly whenever they had the chance. At least now he had gotten used to it. Nonetheless, that didn't mean that seemingly never-ending abyss of crushed hopes and dreams with women was stopping anytime soon.

No, in contrast, it kept growing.

"Oh my god!" Jax barked out, hand banging against the table they all sat at as Matthew came back and sat down.

"That was... by far... the worst one yet!" Tommy added before taking a gulp of his Cola, still in an attempt to hold down his laughter.

Across the table, Matthew slouched in his seat, his cheek still burning from where the girl and her friend had slapped him. He rubbed it tenderly, muttering explicit phrases as the moments replayed in his mind. His confidence in conversing with the women was misplaced apparently, judging by the harsh slap.

"It wasn't that bad, guys." He muttered, wanting nothing but to forget about it. Of course, it was that bad.

"Come on." Rafael clapped him on his shoulder. "Your neck practically snapped when they slapped you!"

Groaning aloud, Matthew grumbled, "Leave me 'lone."

"Aw," Jax began to taunt. "is little Matty upset?"

"Hold on men, we've got to hand it to him. He has had three girlfriends." Rafael paused, stating an afterthought, "Although, one already had a boyfriend and the other two didn't last more than a week and a half."

All three men busted out into hysteria.

Matthew could only roll his eyes, cross his arms, and take the blows as they were delivered.

When the laughter quieted down, Jax reached over to Tommy who sat by his side, twisted his shirt in his hand, attention set far away. He pointed over to the other side of the restaurant.

"Check that out."

The friends turned and followed his gaze. There a woman sat, eyes glued to some kind of book or journal in her hands. Her tongue discreetly wet her cherry colored bottom lip before she took it into her mouth, brows furrowing together in confusion. Her midnight blue hair was tied back into a high ponytail, the long tresses cascading down her back.

Matthew's breath caught when he laid eyes on her.

She was the most exquisite creature he had ever seen.

Jax began to push his seat back. "I'm going to get her number."

"No!"

All eyes turned to Matthew who was struggling to process what he just blurted out himself.

"What?" Jax asked with humor in his voice.

"I-I... I um..."

Tommy leaned forward. "You got something you wanna say?"

"I... I just think you should wait a little bit."

"Oh, really?" Jax raised a brow and Matthew hummed in return. "Why should I wait?"

"Well... she may... be meeting her boyfriend."

"Matthew, look at me." Rafael prodded. When he looked at him, his eyes were filled with pity and empathy. "Not all of us date girls who are already committed to another being."
