The sun rises over the Nactone mountains slowly. Sun rays start to shine over the city. It's a relatively cold morning with a slight breeze still.

*Alarm clock beeps*

I hoped out of bed and slipped on my school uniform. I raced downstairs to my mom, who is already making  breakfast.

"Morning mom!" I said.

"Up and dressed already?" She asked.

"Yeah, I wanna get to school early to check my results!" I said excitedly.

"Oh, that's right, I'm sure you passed." I swallowed her breakfast within minutes. "Wow, someone's really excited to check their results." She said.

"Well duhhh, this is my future on the line!" I said as my mom started cooking for Dakota who was slowly walking down the stairs, still not dressed.

"School doesn't start for another hour." Dakota said mockingly.

"Shut up" Nicky said.

"Hey hey, you guys wanna make your own breakfast next time?" Our mom said.

"No" We both said as we slightly hung our heads in shame.

"Then cut it out, not another word of arguing." She continued making scrambled eggs with some bacon. A few minutes later, she handed Dakota her plate of food.

"Hey mom?" I called.

"Yeah?"

"Could I go to school early to check my results?" I asked.

"Sure, go right ahead." She said.

"Thanks!" I walked out the door and speed walked over to her school.

"Hey wait!" A voice called out. It was Tirana again.

"Jeez, can you walk any faster?" She said as she caught up.

"I could run, but I wanna see my scores!" I said excitedly.

"Me too! Do you think I passed?" Tirana asked.

"Well of course! You're almost as smart as me!" I said cheerfully.

"Wow, getting a bit cocky I see," Tirana said.

"I just feel good about myself. I could get a free scholarship!" I yelled.

"Ok ok chill. I'm sure we both know that you defiantly passed. I just hope I did." Tirana said with a worried look quickly appearing on her face.

"I'm sure you did, you're the second best in the school!" I said, trying to encourage Tirana.

"I hope you're right."

"I know I'm right. You were second best on your transcript, right behind me, remember?" I explained.

"Yeah, I guess you're right." Tirana said.

"Now, enough worrying, let's go see our scores!" I said excitedly. A couple minutes later,we had arrived at the school. We walked into the office where the people who passes were posted on a list on a cork board. They were in alphabetical order.

"I don't see mine yet." Tirana said as she scanned for her name. "Oh, there I am! I passed!" She said as she started jumping up and down. "Nicky, I passed!" But I was still looking for my name. I couldn't find it.

"I can't find my name." I said. My face turned from excited to more worried and sad.

"Maybe there was a mistake." Tirana said. "C'mon, let's ask the front desk lady." We walked over to lady behind a counter. "Excuse me?" Tirana said.

"Can I help you?" The lady asked.

"Could you search up if my friend passed the test?" Tirana asked.

"Sure, what's her name?" The lady asked.

"Nicky Wikson." She said.

"Ok, give me one minute." They took a seat on a couple chairs across from the Lady. "I couldn't find her, I'm sorry." I didn't pass with 100%. My face was swallowed up with disappointment. My eyes started to water, like a fire hydrant was about to burst open.

"I- I have to go-" I said as I walked out the door. I ran all the way home, with tears flowing from her eyes. Tirana looked out from the door way.

"Nicky!" She called. But I didn't look back. I kept running. I ran passed my home, passed Tirana's house and out of the city. Tirana started running after me. "Nickyyyy!" She called. I didn't answer. "Nickyyyyyyyy!" She called louder. Still, I didn't respond. She walked out of the city and continued her search. Finally, she found me. I was sitting on the edge of a lake, crying. She had never seen me so sad and upset like this. She walked up closer to me as she heard her sniffling. "Nicky?" She called in a soft voice. "Nicky, Nicky it's ok" she said as she squated down and hugged me from behind.

"One question, I missed one question, I know it." I said.

"So? You can still get into any college. You're a smart woman." Tirana said.

"Yeah, but not this one."

"And? You're still going to succeed."

"Tirana" I said. "My parents said that if I didn't get in this college, I would have to be the new lead gaurd of our castle."

"What's wrong with that? You get to protect your kingdom! You get to stay with your parents!" Tirana explained in excitement.

"I hate the rule that your parents basically control you." I said.

"Well yeah, we all do but hey, if you're lead gaurd and prove yourself, you could become the new queen of the kingdom and get rid of laws!" Tirana explained.

"Me? Ruler of a reality? No, I didn't learn this dark matter crap for nothing." I said angrily.

"But ruler of a reality! You could mix it all together!" Tirana said.

"Yeah, you're right. I guess being a gaurd won't be that bad." I said as I wiped my tears away. "Lets just hope I survive training itself."

"That's...kinda the spirit, but you'll be fine." Tirana said, reassuring me.

"Ok, I'm not going to school today though, I'm a mess" I said. My eyes were red from the crying.

"I'll stay home with you if you want me too." Tirana offered.

"You don't have to but sure." I said with a small smile appearing on my face.

"I'll take that smile as a yes." We both got up at the same time and walked over to my castle. My mom was still home.
