Chapter Fifteen- The Catalyst

"They're gonna be here soon." Mike whispered to Chester. They were still in their tight embrace. They'd been like that for what felt like hours. They couldn't let go. They didn't want to let go. If they did, they'd probably never get a chance to again. But they knew they had to eventually, just not right now.

"Mike, I'm sorry."

"For what?"

"For getting in the way of everything."

Mike pulled away a bit to cup Chester's face into his hands. He touched his forehead with the other's and said, "Chester, you didn't get in the way of everything. You made all of this a bit more difficult than we thought it would be and changed our plans dramatically, but you were gonna be a part of all this eventually."

"I ruined people's li-"

"I ruined everyone's life. You know that. I know you know that. Please, stop blaming yourself, baby. Please."

Chester didn't say anything in response. They both heard something outside in the ruins far away. Sound traveled really fast now. Everything miles away could be heard. "I have to go now." Mike told the older man. He gave Chester a lingering kiss, just in case this was their last one. Mike had a feeling this would be the last one. This would probably be the last time they saw each other.

Chester knew this too. But he knew for a fact this was the last time. He wouldn't be doing anything for a long time. Tears started falling from his eyes. Mike's gonna be heartbroken when he finds out later on, and even though Mike had put him through so many problems the last few days, his still cared for him as if nothing had ever happened. He loved just as much as he did when they started dating.

Mike pulled away and wiped the tears off of Chester's face. "Don't cry. It'll be okay." Mike whispered. "Just remember I love you, okay?"

Mike walked off afterwards, leaving Chester by himself. Hell was about to break loose, Chester could feel it.

Mike was sitting in the back of the car. He hood of his jacket was on and he could sense that the guys were near. They came for Chester, to take him away, and they had people to help them. A few hundred people. So the world didn't get destroyed. If only Chester knew.

He looked around but couldn't really see anything with the fog around him. That green, toxic mess was all he had been able to see. He breathed in and closed his eyes. "God bless us, everyone, we're a broken people living under loaded gun, and it can't be outfought, it can't be out done, it can't be outmatched, it can't be out run."

The ground and everything around started phasing in and out, like it was glitching, and all of the sudden he was where everyone else was. They all looked at him in shock and confusion. How did he get there all of the sudden.

"I know why you're all here. And I'm not letting you take him from me!"

Brad stepped forward from the crowd of people. "We're not here for Chester, Mike! We're here to help you! You've gone nuts and we want to fix that! We want our friend back!"

"We care about you, Mike!" Dave stepped in. "That's why we were helping you in the first place, but we've realized now that this isn't the way to go! This isn't the life we need!"

"You know this, Mike!" Rob cried. "This world isn't gonna be good again, even if we do fix it up! It'll be different and there'll always be a reminder!"

Now it was Joe's turn. "Mike, listen to us! Just give up all of this an-"

"SHUT UP!" Mike yelled, causing the world to glitch in and out around everyone again. "YOU GUYS DON'T CARE!" He cried. "THAT'S WHY YOU ALL LEFT ME ALONE!" The fog started getting bigger, putting a thicker layer over the area, and it was fogging up Mike's brain along with it. He started laughing and no could see the madness clouding his eyes. "I HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT CARED FOR ALL OF YOU GUYS! I EVEN HELPED A LOT YOU! AND THIS IS HOW I'M GETTING REPAID FOR IT?" Mike snapped his fingers, causing the Earth to shake as the echo traveled through the air and the fog grew more and more until no one could see anything. "WELL, IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO ALL FUCKING DIE AND ROT IN HELL!"
