"Well, don't just stand there! Let's go to my Daddy's hotel and get started!" Chloe pauses before finishing. "I guess we could hang out a bit first. We haven't for a while. You're always hanging out with that DJ and Marinette."
I stay frozen, rooted to the spot. I know I shouldn't think this, but how could Marinette do this? Chloe isn't the end of the world, but still? Why would she do this?
Other than the obvious reason.
"Chloe. I need to talk to Marinette." I say calmly. Her smile disappears and her face takes a look of sadness before turning angry.
"I don't know what I ever did to you, Adrien. We were best friends until you started going to school. We never hang out anymore, you never want to. I miss you." a moment of sadness takes over her face once again before she brushes stray blonde hairs from her face and turns around. She sniffles, then starts walking away.
I begin to call after her, but I need to talk to Marinette. She's acting like the innocent one here, but she's not.
Of course, she's not the guilty one either.
I sigh and turn to the direction of Marinette's house, also home to the Dupain-Cheng Bakery. As I begin walking, I spot a sight I never thought I'd see.
Across the street and a little to the right, Chloe Bourgeois. And beside her, Felix Graham.
From this distance, it's a bit hard to see. But I can faintly make out Chloe smiling and Felix inching closer to her. He looked more relaxed, not so stiff. His eyes were softer and I saw the hints of a smile.
I used to need Chloe, and she needed me. We were all each other had after my mother disappeared and her's walk out of her life. Both of our fathers tended to ignore us. Her's gave her anything she wanted to try to buy her love back.
He didn't know that he had never lost it.
Years went by and Chloe changed. I hadn't noticed it at the time. If I had, I brushed it off as her growing up. I never had anyone to compare her to. Her dad kept buying her more and more stuff, anything she could ever desire.
I remeber the day I found out that my father had finally given me his blessing to go to school. Chloe was the first one I told, my only friend.
"Chlo! Guess what!?" I run into my room and the tall blonde whips her head around to see me. Her bright blue eyes were filled with excitement. As she turned her head, her high blonde ponytail whipped around her fair complected face and smacks her cheek, something we had always laughed about. She swats her golden hair away and smiles.
"What is it??" she adjusts her large yellow crewneck shirt, exposing her short white jean shorts.
"Father said I can start school this year with you! In public school!" I smile brightly and her face lights up even more than it already had. She runs over to me and pulls me into a bone-crunching hug.
"AH ADRIEN I'm so HAPPY for you!!! We can hang out even more now!" she says into the hug.
I hug her back and she laughs. We both pull back and she giggles.
"I already have the perfect outfit for you!"
I chuckle and move my hair from my face.
"I can't wait Chlo, I can't wait."
I smile, remembering that day.
As Felix begins talking to Chloe, I remember all the times we spent together. Watching movies even though my father forbid it. Sneaking store bought cookie dough when I was on a diet. I smile weakly to myself and watch as Felix says something to make her laugh.
Seeing this makes me miss Chloe. And one day I wish we can be close again, not as much as before, but friends. But it also makes me want to hang out with the girl that makes me laugh even when I'm sad. Even when I'd lost something that meant a lot to me.
Marinette.
It's time to talk to Marinette.
