I never knew a piece of paper and a pencil
Can change my life
I was always one to keep my emotions inside
When someone told me
You can always talk to me about anything
I looked at it as writing in my notebook
My notebook
Is my treasure chest
Where all the weight that was lifted from my shoulders
Lie in there
Along with my feelings
My tears
My thoughts
Pages
And pages
Filled with my life story
Poetry
Is not just a way of writing
It is a way of expressing myself
Through words
And I have fallen in love with words
The way they twist and turn into stories
Happy and sad stories
Like one of my favorite poems I've written
Was about Jordan's
Yes the shoes
I wrote an entire piece about Jordan's
Saying this beautiful
But expensive addiction has impacted my life
Just like poetry has
The difference between Jordan's and poetry
I love poetry way more than Jordan's
Then there's those pieces
That are deep inside my treasure chest
The ones where I talk about myself
How I don't
Stick out of crowd
Or don't attract all the boys
The category labeled fine girls
Is not a category for me
Or how I feel like all the people that have left my life
Has been my fault
When it really isn't my fault
It's just my heart is just too big to blame others
This is why I love poetry
No matter how big or how small my heart is
It'll always understand my problems
My problems are past situations
That I have overcome
Once that pencil hits that paper
Poetry
Is not just a way of writing
It is a way of life
So who knows
Maybe a pencil
And a piece of paper
Can change your life too!
