The paper you were working on was due yesterday, "Peter's going to kill me" was all you were thinking. The worst part was you had a mount vesuvius of paperwork at the office and had to call in sick for a virus you got from your boyfriend. After hours of reading and writing you finish the paper and send it to Peter's email with an apology for not going to work.
A couple of hours later, an e-mail arrived from the bureau, you were assigned a new case. It was something big, you were going to meet with a group of important people tomorrow at the office to discuss how to proceed. Since you had nothing else to do but wait, you tried to find something to get you out of boredom until your boyfriend came back home.
First you watched some TV, then you called your secretary and told her to save tomorrow's meeting, later on you got into the shower and tried to "wash off" the illness. Finally after lots of waiting your boyfriend arrived, he had brought you chicken soup, you said hi and he told you to stay in bed and wait for him. He then arrived with the soup and you spoke about the day.
You meet him at work so he knew Peter almost as well as you did, your boyfriend told you he had ask for you and everyone had stop by his working space to ask if you were okay. This felt nice, knowing how important you were at work gave you insurance you were doing great. After finishing the soup you reicieved a text from Peter along with somo from your co-workers, Peter's said he was proud you got the case and that your presence was really important at the office. Since you got into the bureau, Peter had being more than just your boss, he had being your friend, almost a part of your family.
He had helped you through a lot, and opened doors every way he could. Knowing he cared, meant so much more now than it will before all of these. After rereading the text you replied with gratefulness and went to bed.
Next morning you woke up much better, the soup had done its effect and you felt fine enough to go back to work. When you arrived at the office everyone was happy, they all said hi and asked if you were doing better now, then Peter came out of his office and asked you to come in. At first you thought you were in some kind of trouble, you did arrived a little late that day.
Peter closed the door and hugged you "I'm glad you're okay, and it's good to have you back" although you were only gone for a day, it did felt like an eternity to you, and after what Peter said, it seemed it felt the same for him too.
After catching up on work, and giving you some paperwork for your new case, Peter dismissed you and you left the office. Back at yours, your secretary gave you a quick summary of yesterday's calls and lost meetings and checked your schedule for today one last time before you went in. When you looked at your desk, expecting the tons of paperwork to be over it, you got a surprise by seeing it empty.
"Hi, sorry, what happen Ed to the paperwork that was over my desk?" you asked your secretary trough the intercom, she told you Mr Burke had assigned all of it to different co-workers of yours. This was the nicest detail, now you wouldn't have to worry about spending the night finishing the paperwork and you could trust Peter had left it on great hands.
Only thing left to do was to rock that meeting you had with the suits and then work on the big case. The most exciting part of your job was all you had to do today, all thanks to your boss, all thanks to your friend.
