You were in your boyfriend's room, going off and on about how you're going to screw your presentation. Your boyfriend, Jean, tried everything he could to calm you down. He gave you a glass of water, a shoulder massage, and even a lecture of how you shouldn't choose that topic.
"What's wrong with this PowerPoint, anyway? It's perfectly fine," he said.
"I don't know," you groaned, "Every time I look at it, I just want to drown in a pool of tears."
He whispered "oh my God" under his breath.
"I'm really really sorry that I came to you," you said quickly.
He plopped himself onto his bed and shook his head, "No, no. That's what boyfriends are for."
You walked over to the window, put your hands behind your head, and took a deep breath. The view outside from Jean's room is astonishing. It's just the grass and the colorful sky in the evening.
"Pfft, what's so fascinating about that blank canvas?" Jean scoffed.
You turned around to face him, "It's not a blank canvas! It's a wonderful view out there!"
"You sure do have the guts to defend Mother Nature," he said as he turned on his TV. He continued, "But you don't have the guts to present your project."
You were about to say something, but you had no idea what to say.
"And of course, I got you speechless," Jean scooched to the right side of his bed and pat the other side next to him, "Come over here."
You sighed and sat next to him, and asked, "What do you want?"
He wrapped his arm around your neck, held a video game controller with both of his hands, and said, "You to be confident in yourself."
You looked at him and asked, "Jean, why are you playing video games at this time?"
"Why not? It's boring just talking to you," He grinned, "Anyways, it's normal for people like you to be nervous."
You fake laughed, "Only you would say that."
And so he continued, "And that you would imagine how everyone will react negatively. Your hands will be cold and sweaty, your legs will be shaking, and you will have butterflies in your stomach. However, you just gotta get your head in the game and finish it even though there will be bananas and shells in the way."
"Jean, you're playing Mario Kart."
He ignored you, "Confidence is key, babe. I had to go through all that just to ask you out on a date, and look where we are now. And now it's your turn... to present a project that will get you an A+."
All you said was, "Oh. Thank you." You didn't believe that he had to go through all that. You knew Jean was a confident, honest guy who speaks with his mind. It took you a while to sink in the fact that he's been nervous.
"You really need to get out more. That way, you'll be more comfortable with everything unknown around you. Pfft, all you is eat, sleep, and read fanfics at night."
"Hey!" You lifted his arm to escape and threw a pillow at him.
"Hey, you! I was this close," he demonstrated with his thumb and index finger, "this close to get to first place. Thanks to you and your pillow, I will do the same thing." He threw a pillow at you.
You fake laughed, "I love you."
He sarcasticly replied, "I hate you, too," and kissed your forehead.
