Jenna's P.O.V:
"Thanks for that. I owe you big time for that" I smiled across to Ben, as we got out of his car.
Looking up at my bedroom window from the front lawn, I was surprised to see my bedroom light was on. Did I leave it on? I must have. I looked over at Ben as he spoke, shaking my thoughts away.
"No worries. Well, could I use your bathroom?" the male asked, scratching the back of his neck as we headed for the front door.
"Sure thing. I'll show you the way" I replied, unlocking the front door.
I walked upstairs with Ben to show him to the bathroom, only to hear my parents talking in my room. So that explained the light being left on, but not why they were home early. I was in enough trouble – no amount of excuses could get me out of this one.
"Where on earth have you been? And who is this you brought home with you?" My mum questioned me, wearing a concerned expression.
"His name is Ben, we go to school together. I went to-" I began nervously, only to be cut off by Ben.
"My house. She was at my house to study. We hadn't realised how late it got and after my parents had cooked us dinner, I drove her home."
To say I wasn't surprised by Ben covering for me would be a lie. I was utterly grateful because somehow, the lie seemed to have worked its magic - my parents were all smiles.
"Oh, I see. I knew Jenna wouldn't be up to no good!" Mum turned to my dad, with a relieved smile.
"Thank you Ben. Why not invite your parents over tomorrow, you know, so we can get to know each other?" My dad suggested, and I couldn't help but sigh. They knew how to embarrass me well.
"Sure, I'll let them know. I best get going. See you tomorrow, Mr and Mrs McDougall" Ben spoke in a happy, almost fake tone as he shook my dad's hand.
I barely knew the guy and he was hardly my friend, but all this was going on? What next, they'll want us dating?
After exchanging goodbyes, Ben finally left and I got to go to bed without being interrogated by my parents for being out late and coming home with an unfamiliar boy. I didn't even get to thank Ben, although I suppose I'll be able to do it tomorrow at school.
Ben's P.O.V:
To say that was awkward for both me and Jenna would be an understatement. Jenna was blindingly embarrassed by her parents. I'm glad they bought my lie. I'm not usually one to make things up like that, but I didn't want to see Jenna get into trouble when I had an opportunity to help.
The drive home was peaceful after the long night. I began to smile to myself as I thought of Jenna on stage and performing. She told me she wasn't in a band, so I had no idea she'd even be performing. She has so much talent though, I hope she knows it.
As soon as I got home, I opened up Facebook to see what everyone had been up to back home. I had a few friend requests from people at school, despite the fact that I didn't even know them yet. One request stood out though, and that was Jenna's. I accepted it straight away and went to her profile to have a little sneak – it's something we all do, whether we like to admit it or not.
I felt my heart stomach drop as I read 'Jenna McDougall is in a relationship with Brad Evans'. This Brad guy certainly didn't look like Jenna's type - his profile was full of pictures of rugby and he had thousands of friends - but then again, I wouldn't know what kind of guy Jenna's into. Maybe it could be guys like me?
I guess only time could tell me the answer to that one.
