MÈRE
Prompt: A mother's day one-shot

Mom.

Nanay.

Nanang.

Ina.

What is a mother? I have been asked by my teacher in kindergarten one time, while we were tasked to do a letter for mothers during their special day.

According to Merriam Webster, it explained that the definition of a mother is a woman in relation to her child or child

But at the back of my mins, I knew that it wasn't an exact nor enough definition.

It was way more than that.

The question remains to be unanswered. What is a mother?

A mother doesn't only give a birth to a child, but also give her love and affection unconditionally.

In the middle of the night, Luna has woken up because of the cries of the Reids' new addition to the family, Hailey. Quickly getting up from her bed and tiptoeing towards to her door and to her baby sister's room.

Her brows furrowed when she saw the door slightly opened. Not wanting to cause any commotion, she slowly walked towards the door.

Peeking from the door, she noticed that her mother was already there — seated in a rocking chair whilst Hailey was in her arms.

She watched her mother in complete awe as Nadine rocked Hailey slowly, while humming, 'You are My Sunshine' ( Dad's personal favorite comfort song)

Nadine stopped in the midst of her humming when she noticed someone leaning on the doorway. Averting her gaze towards that person, she inquired, "Ate, why are you still up at this hour?"

"Oh." Luna sheepishly smiled, "I heard Hailey crying. Is she hungry, Mommy? Is that why mommy

Nadine nodded then placed her daughter back in the crib when she started to drift to slumber.

"Mommy?"

"Yes, love?"

Luna walked toward her mother slowly, wrapping her little arms around her hip, "Do you always get up in the middle of the night, so you can feed Alessandra?" She asked

"Mhm." Nadine smiled softly

"But mommy...don't you get tired? You take up early in the morning to prepare breakfast and lunches for school. You were the one who iron our clothes too."

"I do get tired, of course. But I love what I'm doing and I wouldn't exchange what I do to anything."

Luna's brows scrunched in confusion, "Why, mommy?"

"Because I love you and your siblings so much that I enjoyed taking care good care of you all even if it is tiring."

That was the exact moment that Luna found out that her mother's love for her and her siblings was unconditional.

It was a special day; a mother and daughter's day in Luna's foundation week in school. Luna was already feeling anxious and jitters the whole time she waited for her mother to arrive in school.

They were supposed to be performing in an special event, however, her mother hasn't showed up yet.

Luna paced around the back stage, her hands started to tremble in fear. A sense of worry creep inside of her and possible worst scenarios flashed inside her mind.
