Chapter 12
I woke up with the sun shining in my eyes through the canopies of trees. It was the sunrise, and watching those hues of pinks and orange made me want to fall right back to sleep again, just so I can fall asleep happy with that beautiful image flashing through my mind. But alas, I knew I should be getting home. I sighed and rose to my feet...well paws. I stretched out my body like a cat, giggling to myself on how the image must have looked. I heard the crunching of leaves and I paused, praying to whatever was out there that it wasn't a pack member, see how none of them particularly liked me.
I didn't hear anything more so it must have been a squirrel or something. Hmmm, a snack. I crouched down in the direction that I heard the animal and lunged, flying through the air like a bird. I love being a werewolf, totally awesome.
I landed on something furry, and was about to hurry up and bite down to break the poor animals neck before I gave the thing a heat attack. I opened my eyes and saw a tail. A black tail. Squirrels are brown. Aw shit, what the heck did I just attack?
I followed the tail to it's owner, all the way along it long wide back, to his strong neck, and finally to it's large snout and pointed ears. I looked into the almond shaped eyes and saw intelligence and anger. I sniffed the air and felt my heart stop beating.
Werewolf.
And not just any werewolf, a rouge.
F. My. Life.
I jumped up and shifted back to my human, not even caring that I was naked.
"I'm so sorry! I thought you were a squirrel I swear!" He shifted also, and I really hate to say this, but he was absolutely beautiful. He had chin length blond hair, a square chin with a slight scar on the left side of his jaw, cold blue eyes that were looking at me curiously and a well sculpted chest and abs that practically made me want to drool and lick him. "You should know better than to be by yourself little girl. What's a pretty little thing like you doing out here all up for grabs?" he asked in a sexy silky voice. Wait, what?
"I-I umm fell asleep out here last night and pretty much just woke up." I stuttered. He just smiled lightly at me.
"And wanted a snack?"
I mocked glared at him, trying to hide my smirk. I can't believe a rouge was making fun of me.
"Why are you mocking me?" I asked, "aren't you supposed to be like...eating me?"
"Not all rouges are evil. Some of us were forced to be this way." I saw sadness in his eyes, and for some reason, I wanted nothing to be there except happiness. I knew he was a rouge, and therefore was supposed to be evil, but really, I have seen more evil in my pack than what I've seen in this rouges eyes.
"How did you get that scar?" I asked randomly. I saw a hint of a smile on his lips that made me full out grin. "I killed a village of small children and one of the mothers got me before I ate her."
I'm pretty sure my jaw was on the ground at this point.
He burst out laughing, something I definitely didn't expect to happen, and looked me straight in the eyes. "You should have seen your face! Priceless!" His laugh was melodic, and eventually made me start laughing with him. "Don't ever do that again!" I really thought he was serious about that! "You shouldn't tease." I pouted, his eyes softened on me when he saw my pout, when he continued to stare at me lips I decided to try again with my question. "What really happened?"
His eyes refocused on me, and after a few seconds he closed his eyes as he registered my question. "My mate gave it to me when she found out I was hers." He said to me. His voice sounded broken, like even just talking about it gave him incredible pain. I frowned at him and stepped closer, going very slowly just in case he reacted badly and tried to attack me. I put my hand on his jaw and traced his scar slowly with my thumb. "I'm sorry," I told him honestly. He leaned into my hand slightly, enjoying the contact it seemed. "What's your name?" he asked me, his voice soft and velvety.
"Sirena.". He sighed slightly and opened his eye. "You have a beautiful name," he told me.
"What is yours?"
"Darien," he told me. I smiled, his name was perfect. "Gift" I told him. He looked at me quizzically like I lost my mind or something. I blushed when I realized that I said my thought out loud. "You're name means gift, and I kinda just thought it was perfect...like you were a gift to me..." He smiled at me then, probably thinking how he needed to get away from the crazy chick. Instead of running away like I thought he would, he instead asked me a question. One I didn't think he'd like the answer to. "Why would I be your gift and not you're mate?"
"He rejected me." I told him bluntly.
"What happened?" he asked. Hearing the concern in his voice, made me want to tell him everything. So I did. I told him anout Tanner, the rape and beatings. I told him about my parents, how they never know i'm there and ignore me except for when I shifted, and how I don't have friends cause I don't want to deal with the extra drama. And finally, I told him about finding Eric, and all the times I caught him with other women.
He wrapped his arms around me and leaned his head on mine, comforting me. "I'm sorry Sirena." He told me.
"I'm sorry to Darien."
