[Magnus’s POV]
We go by many names and take many forms.
We bring wonder and hope.
We bring joy and dreams.
And our powers are greater than you ever imagine.

The guardian legends are true. Except, they have been twisted and turned, told and retold so much so that they lost their true essence.

The fat, round friendly and kind Santa was supposed to describe the sassy and extremely hot, Magnus Bane.
I rolled my eyes, looking myself over in my mirror. How could they ever manage to make such a misinterpretation. They did get one thing right though, I love wearing red. I wore a bright red, tight button up shirt with snowflake pattern and black jeans. There were red streaks in my hair, which was styled artfully to fall on my forehead. A tint of red glitter eyeshadow and eyeliner completed my outfit. I grinned, satisfied and opened the door to my room, only to get knocked over by ‘the sweet peapod of love’. I fell on my back and groaned painfully, and laid there, unmoving and staring at the ceiling. “Well don’t just lay there!” came an irritated voice. “How many times have I told you to knock?” I retorted, wincing slightly when I was answered with a kick.

“No respect for The Santa Clause?” “Oh please. You hate to be associated with that man” Ragnor grumbled, making me laugh. “That is true, my friend” I patted his back as I brushed past him and out of my room, heading straight to the wards room. Ragnor trailed behind me.

Now, according to legend, Santa was the man who distributed presents to all the good behaving children of the world. Well, actually that’s not true. I mean, I have people (more like elves) to do that, I just supervise that work. My real work is to keep up the wards of the earth everyday and protect everyone from evils we no longer talk about. I know that sounds cryptic but the dark ages were a very painful time for everyone and it was best to avoid the subject.

I got to the room and went straight to the huge globe in the middle. The globe was covered with little glowing blue dots. Those dots represented all the children who believe in us. The more children, the stronger our powers. I smiled at the numerous dots before waving my hands in the air. Blue sparks trailed from my fingertips and surrounded the globe in sheets of blue light. I twirled both my hands around, thickening the blue sheet of light before raising my hands over my head. All blue light channelled into a pipe, heading up and out through the hole directly above the globe and forming an invisible cover over the world. I do this everyday to make sure the wards are still strong. I also monitor demon alerts and contain demon infestations. All in all, a tiring job.

I was about to leave the room, when the lights on the globe flickered. Ragnor tensed beside me, and I squinted at it. This wasn’t normal. I felt the first claws of fear gripping my heart as the lights flickered two more times. I looked at Ragnor, seeing my fear reflected in his eyes.

That’s when the black sand appeared.

I just stared at the sand, covering the surface of the globe. It rippled and creased, a single Greek word appearing on its surface.

//Erchomai//

I snapped my fingers, causing blue flames to appear and looked around, ready to attack. The sand swirled around the word a little longer before it exploded, vanishing into thin air. I dropped my hands, not being able to avoid the fear piling in my chest. No, this isn’t happening. He cant be.... back.

I turned to Ragnor, who was just as shocked as I was. For once, he wasn’t snarky when I told him to go and check for demon alerts. He left without a word and I glanced at the globe one last time, as if reassuring myself that the lights were still glowing before heading to the terrace.

I stood in the middle of the terrace and snapped my fingers. I moved my hands, muttering, creating lines of blue, pink and purple lights in the sky. To the normal eye, they would look beautiful, the northern lights. But to me, they were a clear SOS message to my other guardian friends.

There are four of us guardian, and it is our job to protect the world.
I worked my hands harder, making the lights shine brighter.

We have never faced a greater threat before. A threat we've managed to avoid for so many years.
Yet, we are not the ones to cower in fear. We will stand together. And we will fight.

The question is, Are we strong enough?
