First day

Upon entering the gates of Lumiere International highschool, everything felt so new for Lisa.

Seeing all the students entering the gates and loitering around the campus, and the tall buildings surrounding her felt all so new.

Looking at the map she was holding, she directly went to the classroom where she would be spending her whole grade 11 life studying for 10 months.

Once she entered the door she was greeted by loud chattering sounds and unfamiliar faces. Suddenly, she felt a person stumbled into her, making that person spill her water into her own blouse, making the students who were already seated roar out with laughter.

"Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry!" Lisa panicked. She felt bad for the person who she assumed was their teacher.

First day in school, and I already made a commotion. Wow Lisa, way to go, champ!

"Don't worry about it. I'm just having a bad luck today." The teacher replied. "Besides, this will be dry in a few minutes." The teacher continued while she was trying to pat the water dry.

The male school principal who was loitering around the campus heard a loud laughing coming from the classroom so he went directly to the room to check out what's happening. He saw the wet shirt of the teacher, "Is everything alright in here Miss?". The teacher replied, "Yes, sir. It was just a mere accident. Nothing's wrong."

"Good to know. Anyway, we have a new student here who came all over from Thailand. Her name is Lisa Manoban." The principal said, suddenly remembering about the new exchange student. He was then scanning the room with his two own eyes. Looking for a girl named, Lalisa Manoban.

Lisa felt anxious once again, since she was the only person standing infront, she felt all her classmates eyes boring into her. She is not used to this kind of attention so she felt very anxious at that very moment.

When she finally had the courage,
"Uhm.. H-hello! I'm Lisa Manoban. Nice m-meeting y'all" Lisa said with a stutter. She glanced at her classmates and saw some of them were looking at her weirdly, as if they were judging her. While the others weren't paying any attention.

"Welcome to Lumiere International High School, Ms. Manoban. I hope you'll enjoy and learn a lot in our school." The principal told Lisa while he stuck his hand out for shake which Lisa gladly took.

The principal then went out.

"Welcome! You may take your seat as we are going to start in a few minutes." The teacher told Lisa, while gesturing her to sit.

When she found an available seat at the back of some fat guy who was eating alone inside the classroom, she immediately went into it and sat.

She regretted taking the seat since the fat guy farts a lot. Lisa now knew why nobody had taken this seat.

While the fat guy was still blowing some of his bad air, she can't help but hear all the snickers she's hearing from her classmates but decided to just ignore them.

The first teacher then started tackling some new lessons.

So this is how studying in real school feels like, huh? It's a bit loud because of the chattering, but it is less boring than being home-schooled.

When the bell rang, all the students stood up and went outside to go to the cafeteria. Lisa, not knowing what the bell is about, she just followed where her classmates were going. Once she realized they're heading for the canteen, she immediately bought herself some snacks and went outside where there was an available shady bench under the tree.

It is not foreign for Lisa to eat alone since that's what she do sometimes when her parents are off for some business meeting, besides she loved the silence. While she was eating, she observed everything that's surrounding her, the tall buildings, the gymnasium, the food courts, the students laughing and busily talking to each other, and the students who were having their PE class on a sport field.

After hearing the bell, Lisa immediately discarded her trash into the bin and ran all the way to the classroom.

Lisa's first day went faster than she thought.

This is not as bad as I thought it would be.

-

"How was first day?" Lisa's mom asked her while they were eating dinner.

"It was fine. Everything felt so new." Lisa replied.

"Got any friends yet?" Her dad asked.

"Uh.. none, yet. I'm sure I'll be having some friends in a few days." Lisa said proudly.

The truth is, Lisa is afraid. Afraid to talk with her classmates, and afraid to approach and start a friendship. She was sort of socially awkward because she basically grew up without having any human contact outside her home back in Thailand. But she knows she has to open up and move out of her comfort zone since she still has a long way to go.
