Chapter Nine:
Ella and I sat in a temporary cell inside the executive of Sony headquarters office. It was really just a small room that was an addition to the large rectangular office. It was about a third of the size of it with bars attached to the door to resemble a real jail. We sat on two folding chairs in the compact room as we desperately tried to listen in to the conversation that was happening between Lance and his boss in the next room.
We only just heard bits and pieces of the conversation but things didn't seem to be going well for Lance.
He was attempting to explain why he had brought Ella and I into the building with no permission without being able to explain the whole story.
About fifteen minutes later the series of locks that bolted us into the room opened, revealing Lance, who was sporting a pretty downcast expression. Behind him was the executive who finally introduced him as Charles Griffin. He apologized for shoving us into the cell but explained that was strictly the protocol Sony used to address trespassers, and due to our 'haneous crime' Lance had lost his job.
"Oh Lance, I didn't mean..." I started, seeing tears well up in my cousins eyes.
And then I kind of exploded...
"You, mister," I said jabbing my finger into Mr. Griffin's chest. "Have no right to punish Lance for something I did. He was only trying to help me and my friend not 'rebelling against your company' or any other dumb excuse you have to fire your best employee..."
"Layla," Lance began, trying to calm me down. But, his efforts only made me angrier.
At this point the words I yelled at that man were not meant for the ears of anyone below the age of at least 70, and even those old timers would have a heart attack after hearing the slew of curse words I shot at Charles Griffin. Let's just say it resulted in Ella, Lance and I being carried out of the building by three very 'handsy' security guards.

I expected Lance to never talk to me again, but within twenty minutes of us getting kicked out, he burst out laughing.
We were sitting on the curb trying to figure out what our next move would be when Lance decided it would be a good idea to have a laughing fit. He laughed for a full five minutes as Ella and I started to slowly back away towards our car, afraid he'd gone insane.
"Lance?" I said finally. "Are you okay mate?"
"Yeah, actually I'm just fine. To be honest I hated working in those little office cubicles with boring old computers and the same schedule over and over again. I really want to do something more spontaneous, I just don't know what yet," he explained, chuckling a little more.
"Well I'm glad I helped you in someway..." I trailed off thinking about how his helpful project hadn't made it past Satan's office.
"And I'm glad I was able to help you too," Lance said smiling and pulling two lanyards out of his back pocket.
"No way..." Ella and I said grabbing them from him and examining the fake badges.
"Nice to meet you Kylie Gilmore and Bryce Dillon," Lance responded, using our fake names that were plastered on the front of the badges.
"Pleasure to meet you too," I said laughing and giving my cousin a big hug.
Maybe this could work out after all.

"How do I look?" Ella squealed nervously, checking herself out in the rear view mirror for about the hundredth time in the last five minutes.
We were sitting in Ella's car waiting for it to turn exactly five o'clock. That's when the reporters would rush to the door that lead into the coference room, where the half hour press meetup with the boys would take place.
I looked at Ella as she nervously stared at her phone. Watching the minutes tick by slowly, bringing us closer to the boys & financial stability. She wore a powder blue crop top with high waisted, tight black leggings, so she didn't show much skin. She had paired this with a silver infinity necklace I had gotten her for her birthday and her favorite diamond studs. The raven colored hair Aubrey had fitted her with was curled in loose ringlets that framed her face and to add the finishing touches to her 'reporter look' she'd done a pretty silver smokey eye that complemented her outfit and her new bright green eyes. As you could tell, we'd planned our outfits out to the last detail before we'd left for Sydney.
"For the reporters or for Luke?" I smirked. I still hadn't had time to ask her about that. And since we had twenty more minutes...
El just blushed. "Well both I guess," she said, her cheeks reddening with every word.
"Ohhh you like him don't you?" I exclaimed, playing dumb.
"Well maybe, just a little... But I mean he's so sweet and holy crap his eyes, I could just melt! Plus you know how I like taller boys," she blurted out. I just laughed at my best friend, who was clearly smitten with Luke Hemmings.
"It's not like you're so innocent yourself," Ella said blushing more. "There's definitely something going on between you and Ashton."
"I...I don't know," I mumbled. I was confused about how Ashton had acted around me in the tour bus and worried about how he would act the next time I saw him, which was in less than fifteen minutes.
All I knew was that I couldn't get Ashton out of my head, and for the first time since we'd met I couldn't describe my relationship with him without thinking we could be more than friends...
"Oh Layla, come on, Ashton would be crazy not to fall for an amazing, crazy girl like you," she said giving me a warm smile. "And I mean, I did a pretty bang up job with your hair and makeup..." She said teasingly.
"Oh shut up!" I exclaimed laughing at her. But to be fair, she had done a pretty amazing job.
My new 'blonde' hair fell loosely down my back in waves of curls and the glittery pink and grey eyeshadow perfectly complemented the bright blue eyes Aubrey had given me. I had paired these two things with my favorite pair of high waisted jean shorts that had patches of white lace on the sides of them. With that I had on a pink, purple, black, grey and white Aztec pattern sleeveless crop top and a cream colored cardi that I had rolled up to end a bit above my wrists. I had on a gold infinity necklace that matched Ella's and some pink and gold studs in each of the four piercings I had, two on each side of my ear.
"Thanks El," I said smiling and for once I was feeling pretty confident about myself and how our plan would fall out. Even if both Ella and I looked nothing like ourselves, it was all apart of getting to the boys without giving ourselves away.
But, this confidence washed out of my body as soon as the clock on the dashboard of the car read '5:00.'
"It's go time..." Ella said nervously, grabbing one of the large black cameras Lance had lent us to make us seem as if we really were reporters, and handing me the other one.
I took it from her and gave my best friend a small smile as I looped the camera strap around my neck.
Let's do this.
