Chapter 9

2 weeks later

Vanessa's POV

I wake up from my nap, and strangely Normani isn't next to me like she normally is. We went to sleep together, so I'm not quite sure why we didn't wake up together.

Just as I'm about to go find Normani, Alayna pops into the room. "Mommy said to tell you she leaving."

"Did she say where she was going?"

"Uhh.....," Alayna starts to think a little before she answers. "She said not to tell you."

"Did she tell you though?" I ask, to which Alayna shakes her head.

"Well....she told me, but I forgot." Alayna says.

"I'll go see where your mother is going."

"Good luck with that."

"Thanks mija. I need it," I say, kissing her forehead before walking into the master bedroom to see Normani lacing up some shoes. "Where are you going?"

"Out." Normani says.

"That wasn't the question Normani," I say. "Where exactly are you going?"

She looks up at me before replying. "I'm. Going. Out."

"Not until you tell me where you're going." I say.

"Why does it matter? You don't control me."

"That's strange, because I did a few hours ago."

Normani laughs, wrapping her arms around my neck. "You always get an overinflated ego whenever I let you take the reins."

"I do that because your submission doesn't come easily, so I take full advantage." I chuckle, shrugging.

"I can tell, gon' have me limping like no tomorrow."

"Was it worth it though?"

"It was definitely worth it," Normani says, pecking my lips. "I really wanna go down to the station."

"Why? They're going to kick you out like they always do." I chuckle.

"I know, but I don't like people messing with our kids."

"I know that all too well," I chuckle. "I remember all the hell you rose when Alayna was gone."

"Of course I did, she's my baby." Normani says, and that's when Alayna walks into the room with her LeapFrog in her hands.

"Mama, did you call me?"

"No baby, mama was just talking to mommy." I say.

"Oh, okay." Alayna says, walking off.

"So we're just going to let her do this?" Normani asks.

"Who, Sammy?" I ask.

"Yeah, that bitch." Normani says.

"I mean, she's been doing it for years so she's most definitely not stopping now." I say, before my phone rings.

Dinah Jane 🦁

"Yes ma'am?"

"Where are you?" Dinah asks.

"At home with Mani, why? Is something wrong?" I ask.

"Uh....all I'm going to say is that you should get down here as soon as you can."

"Okay, I'll be there in 10 minutes."

"Alright, cool." Dinah says, hanging up.

"What'd she say?" Normani asks.

"She said she wants us to come down to the station, so you're in luck." I say.
